IMO, our team has been reshaped to compete against teams like Dallas, Spurs, Suns which are quick and light on their feet. Teams like Jazz, which have a heavy weight PF like CB may have an advantage on us.

That being said, we do need to show a lot more intensity and grit on the court like the Dallas/Spurs game last night in which the players on one team seemed to be looking for every opportunity to knock the opposing player down to the floor. It had a "playoff" feel to the game.

Therefore, we have to bring "IT" to each game. Of course, thats why a lot of people love Sura, because he brought "IT" to every game and did not take crap from anyone.

    Bonzi isn't going to play.

Rockets can win, but JVG will play his starters almost to a full game.. again. We are going to lose to exhaustion.

I say we put Mutombo on the floor for 48 mins and let him and his elbows do the work. So even thought we lose, we'll at least take Dirk, Howard, Stack, and Terry down with us.

Hopefully JVG will balance out his players time on the court learning from the Jazz game. With the speed the Mavs have, this is going to be the crucial factor.

Prediction: Rockets win by 8. 101-93

If they get on the court for more than 5 minutes...
    Novak : 3 - 3's
    Vspan : 4 assists

The Mav's don't have the foot speed that Utah did to just run us off, but its going to be a hard fought game, hopefully the Rox get a few breaks. It seemed like Utah was just a step quicker, getting to rebounds, loose balls and during fast breaks. But no Van Gundy team is going to allow two teams to shoot +50% from the field in consecutive games. My gut tells me that we are not going to be over .500 till the third week though.

    Dallas- 94
    Hou- 92

T-mac and Dirk put on a crazy scoring exhibition.

Translation: Tmac has 100 field goal attempts and scores 28 points.

I just want to see T-Mac go to the hole more. Im getting a bit frustrated with him turning into a jump shooter only. He obviously can get the hole with the best of them but settles for jumpers these days.

    Rockets win 97-88

This will be a statment game for the rockets. If jvg gets blown out in front of a home crowd by dallas jvg maybe the first coach to get the axe this nba season. I dont want it to happen, but i have a feeling Les would be willing do what maimi did last season seeing how it worked out for them. A coaching change baby what he views as a soution.

I was listening to 610 really late night like i do when i leave work each night and i can't remember which show it was where he does different level of the hot seat and JVG was on the mild hot seat becuase he hasn't been able to produce with the talent he had in Houston. Saying that managment has brought in players each year to make the team only better and better and we havent seen results.

Early season test game for both teams as both lost their openers. It certainly won't help matters that the Mavericks just lost to San Antonio on national TV in a tough physical game. They will be looking to send a message here and the Rockets can't afford to let them shoot in the 50% range or it will be a looooong night. The good news for the Rockets is that the Mavericks are still weak in the middle with Diop & Dampier. A major key to a Rocket victory will rest on Alston's and Head's ability to play well enough offensively to force Terry & Harris to pay attention to them instead of going after Yao on the double-teams. Another will be Alston's ability to get the ball into the low post and let Yao work over the Mav centers. I'm just not holding out much hope that Battier, Hayes & JHo can negate Dirk & Croshere. This is gonna be very interesting.

I couldn't come up w/ a prediction if I wanted to. Maybe I'll roll some 10-sided dice. At least the Rox should make this a competitive game for the crowd. Miami's home opener was pathetic and the fans should have gotten a refund.

I expect to see some classic JVG lock-down defense. Hopefully the Utah game doesn't stick in their minds and we'll come out firing on all cylinders. I said it last game and I'll say it again, NO SLOW STARTS PLEASE! I know it's a worn-out saying, but I think our chemistry was poor on offense and defense. We may still have some growing pains. Or we crush the Mavs, Tmac & Yao dominate and the message board will look like a ticker tape parade like the preseason again. :)
