We dont need scola for he's defense. we need him for he's passing and offense. two things he can do very well. once he adjust to the officiating and stops commiting stupid fouls, he will be a very, very, very good player. even tonight he showed flashes of how good he can be on offense.

Scola will learn....i remember Yao getting a lot of silly fouls when he came into the league as well.

Also Francis need to adjust his game....he hasn't changed??? He's forcing too many shots...he should let the game come to him. I remember Webber used to be like that when he played for the Kings and then get criticized...he adjusted and let the shot come to him and as a result make the team better overall.

Skip is the only guard on our team that I feel confident about when the ball is in his hands.

He won't make 4 fouls in 5 mins in every game, don't worry.

He is a decent defender and will show it when he adapts to the NBA game, I mean he only played a couple of games...

    Rockets outgun undermanned Mavericks 104-90

    Associated Press

Yao Ming scored 19 points in 20 minutes as the Houston Rockets beat the undermanned Dallas Mavericks 104-90 in a preseason game on Thursday night.

Mike James had 17 points and Shane Battier added 14 for Houston, which used mostly reserves in the second half. Tracy McGrady played 10 minutes, all in the first quarter, and scored eight.

Dallas coach Avery Johnson hardly used his regular starters.

Dirk Nowitzki wore his uniform but didn't play, Josh Howard sat on the bench in street clothes and Jerry Stackhouse watched the game in the locker room with a stomach illness. Erick Dampier (shoulder injury) and DeSagana Diop (flu) also sat out.

Brandon Bass, who signed with the Mavs as a free agent in July, led Dallas with 25 points and eight rebounds.

The Mavericks' starting lineup was Nick Fazekas, Maurice Ager, Eddie Jones, Darvin Ham and Devin Harris. Jason Terry replaced Harris midway through the first quarter.

Houston, meanwhile, started its regular lineup and opened with an 18-4 run, with Yao scoring 10 points and McGrady adding six in the first five minutes.

The lead swelled to 26-6 before Luis Scola replaced Yao with 4:36 left in the first quarter. McGrady was replaced by Bonzi Wells with 2:12 left in the quarter and was done for the night.

In the final minute of the period, Wells fed Yao for an easy dunk to put the Rockets up 30-13. Yao played the first 3 1/2 minutes of the second quarter and was replaced by Jackie Butler.

The no-name Mavericks trimmed the lead to 57-47 by halftime led by Bass, who scored 23 points and grabbed six rebounds in the first half.

Yao started the second half, as the Rockets went back to a lineup of mostly starters. Dallas countered with a lineup of Ager, Fazekas, Jones, Ham and Jose Juan Barea. Yao left for good with 4:35 left in the quarter.

Steve Francis played most of the second half for Houston. Francis signed with the Rockets in July, adding to a crowded backcourt that coach Rick Adelman has to trim by the start of the season. The Rockets have 19 players on the current roster and nine are guards.

The Mavs' second-teamers closed the deficit to 74-72 late in the third quarter. Wells drove for a dunk to start a 16-4 burst that pushed the lead back into double digits. Wells scored 11.

The stars on both sides never seemed too concerned with the game's outcome. During timeouts, McGrady threw T-shirts into the crowd, while Nowitzki chuckled at the on-court entertainment.

You have the right to be optimistic, but saying how amazing McGrady looks based on the 9 minutes of a preseason game he played against crappy scrubs like Mo Ager seems like a leap of faith to me. He played decently.

For the record, I don't think Yao's performance was great either. It was solid and what I expected. He was supposed to abuse Darvin Ham on the block, and when given the chance, he did, so I'm not going to lavish praise on him.

I'm talking more about he he looked physically. he's never had any problems with he's game. it's been he's back thats been making him limiting him. however he looked like he was'nt limited at all. the way he ran and the elevation on he's jumpshot looked great.

His shot is no better than it has been. I don't see much improvement on his end. He is who he is, which is good enough I guess. But his offensive game hasn't evolved at all. May be in a couple of years when he really loses a step or two he will be forced to develop that mid-range shot and try to play more in that zone instead of way out on the perimeter.

May I add that free throw shooting was the down spot for the team tonight. Afterall, they did miss 10 of 28 free throws.

Hopefully, free throw shooting won't be a problem for the team this upcoming season.

tracy had the same problem since last year. yao has been worrying me too. luther got better, and steve is better than he was with us 3-4 seasons ago. besides tracy and the "scrubs", it'll look fine... hopefully.

I have a Mac and live outside of Texas. I've had trouble watching Rockets games, but someone posted a link to this (Chinese) site once and I've been able to see all three games so far, albeit a little delayed. Anyway, they have tonight's game up already.

This link is the babelfish translation (which doesn't really help much) of their Rockets videos. The Mavs game is on the second page of videos.

    decent effort.

tired already of the preseason. yes, we really need the remaining preseason games ... but wth can yah conclude from a game where the opponent hides all their prime players?

yes, yes, i understand its a new offense and our preseason objectives are significantly different than the Fallacies. GO ROCKETS!

On the Dallas broadcast they were showing people in the stands, and the cameraman caught a girl with huge knockers...Morey was in the corner of the picture.
