ClutchFans Game Thread: Lakers @ Rockets 12/7/2016

We are playing really well, but lets not pretend that we are contenders yet, or in the same conversation with the Warriors, Cavs and Spurs. I believe Morey will try to make another move this year to get us into that conversation. My hope is that whatever that move is, it ends up putting Gordon back into the staring lineup with Harden. But that's just my wish and opinion. I don't have a problem with others that disagree. I'm not a Bev hater. I just don't think you can win a championship with him as a starter playing 24 plus minutes a game. I believe you can win one if he comes off your bench and plays 14 to 18 minutes because you have enough talent for that.

 

This game catapulted Eric into the top 20 in 3pt%. 41.6% on the year now

 

Rockets are 9-2 last 11 games with Beverley back. Just put up 43 point first quarter.

As much as Gordon is playing well, Beverley is leading the team in plus/minus in that stretch more than likely, more than Gordon. Meaning Beverley in his role is adding MAXIMUM value to the TEAM. Why tinker with your maximum starter and maximum bench guy? Gordon has an injury history, and the bench needs a go to scorer, are you trying to send him back into the IR?

Gordon might WANT to be a starter, but he can want all HE wants, its whats better for the TEAM. And whats working now is just fine. Not to mention....Gordon ALWAYS has disgruntled type body language, even WHEN he's starting he has a look like he's upset at something. I wouldn't put much into his expression.

I don't think we're a contender either, though we may be the best team out of the also-rans.
Houston will have to upgrade before the trade deadline in order to really compete for a title this season.

But I don't think our problem is in the backcourt. That's developing into one of the best in the league, and Gordon playing the main offensive weapon off the bench is a big part of the improvement.

Plus, putting Gordon and Harden out there together against the league's starting backcourts may underscore possible defensive weaknesses.

I'm not disagreeing with the record over the last 11 games, or the stats of Gordon as a starter over off the bench, those are facts. My first statement on this issue was about my opinion on what I BELIEVE GORDON WANTS. Most importantly, I also added that he accepts as a professional his new role...no malcontent.

My second point is that I believe Gordon could average 25 points a game in a starter role next to Harden playing 34 to 36 minutes per game. I know his injury history just like everyone else does, but I wouldn't let that hold me back if it was my decision. Obviously it is not and the coaches disagree.

Third, I think when it gets to playoff time, I want Gordon and Harden on the court for 36 to 40 minutes a game each. That only leaves maybe 20 minutes for Bev if he is our only legit backup combo guard. It may not be the popular opinion on the board, but I personally think that our team would have a better chance at winning playoffs games with that verses Bev playing 30 minutes. But that's just me. Others are free to disagree and I don't think they are dumb or not great Rocket's fans.

 

Playoffs are a long way away.

I think Gordon is a very underrated defender. His defense is impressive to me.

 

I definitely don't disagree. I think we were all saying that we would improve simply by taking Ennis off the court. I think we will improve again if DMo comes back and Brewer is taken off the court.

 

We have already won at San Antonio and G. State.
I'd say we aren't as bad as you think.

 

While Brewer is god awful, has D-Mo deserved the right to play for this team?

 

First, non of those are petition threads.
Second, the "no one" thingy means you are not looking at the likes on the posts I have for the topic being discussed.
Third, why are you so pissy about someone else's opinion of how to make our team better? This isn't a DMo topic.

 

You are putting words into my mouth. I never said we are bad. I said we aren't contenders compared to the Warriors, Cavs and Spurs. That means I think we are just as good or better than any other team that I didn't mention.

It could just be natural hot streak from Gordon himself. It could be the role. But it looks coincidentally like "Role" and "Bev Effect" as much as anything.
