It's more like we have this desire for him to step up and play well becuase we used such a high draft pick on him. He has shown flashes of being a good role player.

So everyone likes him for now....we have these kind of players on the rockets all the time.

Wonder how long it will last....he is looking good from the begining of the season and making his minutes count when he is on the floor hitting the open shot.

Yeah....that's true but might as well enjoy as long as it does last. He has looked good so far this season.

From what I saw, Shaq didn't beat the fronting. He looked like Yao out there against the fronting, zone from behind defense. Miami could not lob the ball to him properly and turned it over many times. Miami got back in the game when the spurs stopped scoring and they started hitting a ton of outside shots.

I am very offended by this post. It's a stereotypical depiction of the Chinese/and other Asian languages. It's unfortunate people mock what they don't understand.

At the end he said don't get offended it was a joke...this is just reverting back to the incident with Shaq and yao from his rookie season that's all.

I understand it was a joke. Nonetheless, I was and still am quite offended by the joke. It seems to be tolerated nowadays for people to ridicule people of Asian descent. I remember years ago, there was a joke about the first Asian player in the NBA being 5'6". I know other people who make jokes about Yao and think the reason why he hasn't become a player averaging 25 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks is because he's been playing against guys who are all 5'10". I'm not interested in this becoming a flame contest, I'm just clearly stating my feelings. Clove I'm sure is probably an okay guy, but his joke is in very bad taste.

He wasn't making fun of Asians, he was making fun of how Shaq made fun of Asians. If anything, its a dig at Shaq.

I want Yao to throw down some monster dunks in Kobe's face and block Kobe's shots if he dares come to the rim. Remember when Hakeem Olajuwon blocked Michael Jordan in Jan of 1997, the fourth quarter. I'd love Yao to send Kobe's shot back like that.

Everyone would love that to be honest with you.

ANother thing you should understand is that all cultured have been ridiculed in one way or another. Trust me...i mean im persian, but i have to hear all this stuff day in and day out becuase people are ignorant and think that i am a terrorist or what have you.

Unfortunatly it is a part of life and the joke he made was more towards making fun of Shaq and not Yao.

I'd like to see Yao score 40 points, grab 20 boards, and reject 6 shots.

Shaq did not beat the fronting defense against the Spurs. He had 6 points in the 1st half. Bill Walton and the other guy were dissecting some of the 1st half focusing on the poor post entry passing when Rasho was fronting Shaq. Of course, Shaq is still probably the most experienced with this form of defense and knows how to handle it, but the onus is on the passer to make good passes too.

Also, Shaq gets his passes into the post (when not fronted) up high. He doesn't get it chest high. He gets it up high which means the prone defender behind him cannot get to it. In a defensive stance, there is no way someone can just jump up to try to swipe at a pass, but he can always stick his hand out to poke at a pass thrown at the midsection of the post player.

The Van Gundy brothers should share a phone call to figure out how to deal with the fronting defense consistently.
