I thought Davion Mitchell looked really good today, but this is one of those games where scoring stats become deceptive. Although he shot 11-22, he ended the game with just 24 points on TS 52.4%, and this is with him hitting most of his mid-range shots. Its further indication of just how important it is to hit 3s. Green shot worse than Mitchell overall, but finished the night with TS 58.8% mostly because he was hitting 3s at an elite rate. The difference between 6 made 3s and 6 made 2s is 6 additional points. I recall when there was a point in the league when players were drafted purely on potential and athleticism, so features like having a working, functional jumpshot was deprioritized. Many players, even all-stars like Wall or Rose, never learnt how to shoot 3s and so never became efficient scorers. GMs that draft rookies with no jump shot are generally banking on them doing everything else really well, but if it remains that way they'll always be a serious offensive liability.
let me introduce you to the phoenix suns, the best team in the nba, BY FAR, who are 26th in the 3 pointers taken...and almost all of them shoot midrangers from almost everywhere on the floor... TAKE THAT FOR DATA
Old school pg, cp3, loves playing 'old school', no doubt. His joining in (the Suns) set a tone for the team, giving them the soul they were seeking for seasons, redefining the way they play. cp3 does understand, one success could never be replicated: Only the team who got mj n the zen, could play triangle offense RIGHT; Only the team who got Shaq n mamba, could play inside-out offense RIGHT; Only the team who got billups, ben, rasheed n others, could present the original 'motown' D; And the same, only the team who got splash brothers, could drain (raining) threes at will; so…imho, smart captain should understand, the goal is for winning, no matter 3s or middies, do the RIGHT thing at the RIGHT time; smart gm would understand, never copy success, just go keep seeking da soul, n once you got it, tried to built your whole 'system' based on his uniqueness, his traits, n minimizing weaknesses of him/the system.
It was an honor to watch our TEAM play. The hustling and defense that led to offense was truly amazing. They where going after rebounds, setting screens and picks, and passing the ball vs dribbling. I even saw several occasions where ALL 5 players touched the ball in a possession which led to a open shot.
