    unbelievable...

    I just wasn't paying attention.

Was planning on going to the bar tomorrow to watch the game.

Son of a God bless America...

At least I get the second half... Right?

This is the first time I've watched the Rockets play this preseason and I figure I give my first half analysis...

Yao Ming-- First quarter nearly perfect. Made shots in the flow of the offense. Passed very well. His defense was pretty ok. In the second quarter I believe he turned the ball over twice and couldn't get a rebound. Actually the Rockets team as a whole can't get a rebound.

Scott Padgett-- I dont know if its rust or not but Padgett seems to try VERY hard but seems to lack nba talent. Key example... he stole the ball on like the first defensive play by Houston off sheer hustle but couldn't lay the ball up on a break away. I dont know if he is nba talent but he does have hustle and heart and knows how to play the game.

Jim Jackson-- Seems to be still Mr. Consistent. He occassionally makes a bad pass and occassionally forces it but over all he's still a very good player.

Tracy McGrady-- You can sense he is just going through the motions and still makes great plays. I never realized how good of a passer he is... and you can tell once games start counting he can dominant in much the same way Kobe does.

Charlie Ward-- I like ward i think he should be our starter over lue because he thinks pass first. He seems to be (at least) half a step slower then bibby but thats expected. Two things that i noticed that I really liked about ward was that he's a decent rebounder for a guard and that he has a nack for blocking shots... He was at the verge of blocking two shots. (Keep thinking back to the day when he blocked Rik Smits in the playoffs oh soo long ago).

Reece Gaines-- I didn't see him play that much but I really like this guy. He seems to think pass first but what i really liked was his defense. He kept Bobby Jackson in check. It was really amazing for me to see. He seemed to be the only player to do this.

Ryan Bowen-- He seemed to be Mr. Pure Hustle as advertised. I think he's a great bench guy to have. Got burnt once by Peja but on like the next play he hustled back down and broke up a fast break.

Tyrone Lue-- This guy is quick, he seems to be a bit of an offensive spark plug off the bench. The one thing though is that as a pg he should think pass first but this guy seems to think shoot first... not sure if thats a good thing or not.

Maurice Taylor-- He represents the old rockets... at the verge of doing great things but in the end messes up. He blew a wide open dunk... complained everytime there was a foul called and didn't get a rebound... Basically expect the same thing from him that we got last year.

Juwon Howard-- Similar game to Taylor, but completely different personality. This guy can play... shoots well, rebounds well, defends well... he obviously is a lil small at his position but he is a smart guy.

hmm... i think thats everyone that played... i may of missed someone but oh well the games about to start up again so thats it for now...

oh wait... general comments about the quarters... The first the ROckets played beautiful basketball. Basically everyone played in the flow of the offense. But the second half.... ouch... when ward juwon howard jim jackson mcgrady and yao played together it was awful...

On the last play where the ball was stolen from him he was tripled teamed after he received the pass. But Yao needs to learn to hold the ball up high.

First look for me at this year's model. Big picture stuff: I think we are good shape! I am very excited about McGrady's passing, Yao's general game and Juwon's ability to blend in. Even in this early stage, they seem to be more fluid. I also really like role players like Tyrone Lue and Ryan Bowen. I think those are the kinds of players that you need around superstars.

Charlie Ward should be the PG in my opinion. He play fundamental and he know what he's doing. I know how why JVG keeps putting weird lineup on the court...with Boki starting and Paggett.

The lineup should ALWAYS be Yao TMAC Howard JJ and Ward.

    Well, Rockets lost, 91-89.

I watched half of the 2nd quarter and most of the 2nd half. I thought Hawkings was all hustle and played right with a lot of heart. Definitely a keeper if we have a roster spot for him. Bowen I thought also did a good job. Gaines I thought had a very ordinary game from what I saw as he was consistantly burned by Bobby Jackson and couldn't do much on offense.
