I don't think Head has potential as a good PG. He does not make good decisions and does not know how to attack the basket. He is a good spot-up SG. Don't ask him to be what he is not.
yes, this is what i think as well... he's a tweener, i really dunno how things will work for him 5 years down the line. work on his handels 24 7?
I noted Chuck wasn't playing when Shaq was on the court. Is that true? If it is not coincident, i give credits to JVG.
I'm not feeling as good about this game as most people. We were 15/30 on 3 pointers, Wade missed the closing part of the game and we only won by 10. If Wade had played the last 10 minutes, the outcome may have been different. There were times in the game where the Heat shredded our defense. I couldn't believe what was happening. Too many layups, slam dunks and open jumpers. I guess the defense can't always be sharp, especially first game after the All-Star break. Tracy: Hope the groin is OK. If not severe, it's the kind of injury he can play through but it's very risky. He had the outside shot working. Some incredible passes in the 1st half; way too many careless bad passes in the 2nd half. Rafer: When he shoots without passing the ball we are usually in trouble. When he sits at the line and receives a pass, he is lethal. A couple of his runners were totally awful but 6/10 from long range more than made up for it. Deke was great until he ran out of gas. Going up against Shaq is too much to ask of him. Bonzi looked good. If he continues to play like tonight we are in great shape. Luther had some bad TOs but his teammates are partly to blame. A couple of times they completely bailed on him when he was double-teamed. He should have called a timeout instead of throwing bad passes. Juwan/Chuck/Shane were fine. Shaq: Traveled repeatedly and got away with it. What a huge joke. NBA refs call traveling when a perimeter player dares to lift one foot off the ground but Shaq gets to dance a jig after he gives up his dribble and continues to back players down. Deke should have pulled the chair on him a couple of times. I thought it was great when he did the finger wag. Leave it to Shaq to do that when the Heat are going to lose.
Luther seems like a decent ballhandler and dribbler, when he's not being asked to bring it up court. I think it just has to do with his comfort level at PG. He might be thinking too much when he's at the PG position, and not making quick and snappy decisions like t-mac does .
Great game. Mac on fire to start got me pumped up and then that oh so sweet 60-70 foot shot from the Bonz got me REALLY pumped. Great game shooting wise for Rafer. I feel real bad for Wade, that must have been real painful, get well soon.
Pressure on the PGs and Tracy won't be as intense if there's a 7'6" guy that causes the defense to collapse. Hmm. Where can we get a guy that tall?? But hey, we *only* beat them by ten.
Chuck was on the court at the same time as Shaq for about 5 minutes. Most of that (like 3 minutes) Deke was out there at the same time. Chuck played his C minutes defending against Alonzo Mourning. I was just glad to see Chuck dunk one! Wish he could do that more often in there close to the rim. I wonder if we would have seen Jake if Deke had fouled out?
Ya man, they keep showing the replay on SportsCenter. DWade was in a ton of pain. Hope he's okay -> I've loved him ever since he kicked the Mavs' asses in the Finals last season.
PG skills are developed in high school and college, once you're in the NBA you're pretty much what you are, for the most part. If you have bad handles early in your NBA career, then your probably not going to improve that much because coaches want to put you in situations to fit your strengths and minimize your weaknesess, if Luther keeps this up then JVG will be forced to take away PG duties from Luther and make him a 2 exclusively which might good idea for the short term but will stunt Luther later in his career. He will be labeled forever as a short 2 with mediocre handles, not good if he wants to maximize his value next contract time. Luther needs practice on his own with his PG duties, JVG needs to tell him to work on his PG skills on the offseason, this isn't the time to tutor someone at the expense of wins and losses. That's like someone getting a job without the skills or experience and learning on the job at the expense of the quality and speed of the job getting done. I just can't believe Luther hasn't learned how to pass, that guy is deadly with his passes.
Luther's ball handling is still OK to me. But the bad thing is he always loses his mind and did something really stupid. He has gut but is not smart enough. I guess that's so called basketball IQ. He needs to talk to Shane and Tmac.
