OK, Yao only fans, be considerate, this is a forum for Rox fans. Also, to those who bash Yao for his recent low statistics, remember Yao changes the game without touching the ball. Guards get open shot because Yao draws double team constantly. Yao can not win the game alone, but guards can not get us far without Yao being in the game either. It is a team sport, let's root for the team, and appreciate every player's contribution. JVG is trying to utilize everyone's strength and we should enjoy it.
Dude, you've been eating too much French fries. It's time to try some American Freedom Fries; it helps to improve your vision a bit. Yao never let the Haslem and Brian Grant become factors, limiting Miami's best big men to a combined 10 points on 5-for-20 shooting. He also went on a block party, fed the Miami with 7 rejections. He blocked Udonis Haslem twice on one early sequence and was an intimidating presence throughout. He helped the Rockets overcome a dreadful start in which they fell into an 8-0 hole and went nearly five minutes before their first basket. Through out the game, Yao led the team in rebound, block & 2nd in scoring with 16 points (5/7 FG), while Mobley came first with 30 points (11/21 FG). And as for Stevie, whom you referred to as life-saver, just scored 14 points(5/14).
Damn, the Rockets shoulda traded YAO to Utah for John Amaechi. At least Jerry Sloan will realize the general reason the Rockets' perimeter shooters got a lot of wide open shots is because much of the defense of the double/tripple teaming are on the big fella. Hehe...Maybe substitute Amaechi or Cato in for Yao could further boost the Rockets' offense because they can score double digit, "the Rockets' offense is clearly better when Yao is on the bench"
you know, just because someone brings up some constructive criticism of the rox guards doesn't mean they are pro ming. maybe they have a point. just because you win the game doesn't mean you did everything perfect. i think what most people are "complaining" about is that the guards have no desire to pass the ball to yao. i'm not talking about when he is surrounded by 2 or 3 guys. obviously, the right thing is to swing it to an open man. but even when he is single covered or 0 covered during pick and rolls, the guards are still unwilling to pass him the ball. that's just not smart basketball. if the guy is rolling to the basket and his man is not on him, why would you not give him the ball? how many times have you seen that tonight? i seen atleast 3 times when that happened. it is true that yao didn't have good position half the time but the other half, he worked hard for the position and the guards just look him off. the man is being abused by 2 or 3 defenders. he is the reason why the rox have so many open looks. he's in there intimidating the opponent with his defense. how about feeding him a little cookie once in awhile? any smart point guard would know to reward his big man when he's working his butt off. it is undeniable that mobley was hot today. but what if he wasn't? what if they are playing a better quality team than the heat? then what? do you think the guards will suddenly know how to pass the ball to yao when he's fronted? do you think they'll stop shooting? i don't know. only time will tell. but to me, if a guy is dribbling with his head down on a pick and roll, it's just not smart basketball. once might be ok, but again and again, then i consider it a problem.
Damn that Yao Ming who led all rookies last year, 1st in blocks and 2nd in rebound. Damn that Yao Ming last year who led the Rockets in both blocks and rebound. He was ranked 18th in rebound (8.2 per game in 29 minutes) in the league. Cato, prior to the arrival of Yao, considered to be a good rebounder, got less rebounds than Yao. Ooops, I'm hungry again, time for some more American Freedom Fries.
Very good post. I am optimistic though, should the outside shots stop falling in the future, I trust JVG to point us in the right direction and look for better options.
Basketball is a big person's game," Yao said. "That kind of size will always be an advantage." "Every night is not going to be like this, thank goodness," Grant said. "He is a lot more solid than last year."
CAN ALL OF THE "PRO-THIS PLAYER" AND "ANTI THAT PLAYER" PLEASE SIT, SHUT UP AND SAVE THERE GRIPS FOR WHEN THE ROCKETS ARE LOSING. US ROCKET FANS (AS IN THE WHOLE TEAM) ARE TRYING TO ENJOY THERE SUCCESS AND YOU ARE MESSING UP THE PARTY

Did anyone have success with that link?? I forgot to try it last night and I would like to add it to my list of audio links if it worked.
The reason I dont like the way we play is a very simple one! I prefer the Big Man Basketball rather than the Guard Ortiented Game. Four years of it is already too much. Getting the win is very important of course.
In basketball you feed the player with the hot hand. Cat had the hot hand. You also take what the the defense gives you. The defense was collapsing on Yao and allowing Cat to be open, thus he scored in bunches. We played team ball, and we won the game. Not only did we win we won big. Rather than looking at stats and saying that Yao didn't do enough, the Yao folks may want to point out that Cat and others are shooting better because the defense has to respect Yao, and he draws a lot of defenders. Even though it's not in the stats with assists or anything Yao is partially responsible for the scoring of the guards, because he draws the defense. I'm sure that's what JVG wants, and the Rockets have been playing team ball, not forcing shots, and taking what the defense gives them. Our avg. margin of victory so far this year is more than 17ppg. Regardless of what the stats say that's a team effort, and even Yao only gets 7 shots he still gets the credit. It appears that the spot light and individual stardom for Yao is more important to some fans than quality team basketball play. It's ashame that not everyone is enjoying this as much a lot of us Rockets fans are.
FranchiseBlade, I agree with you...Mobley was hot and you go to the hot hand. It doesn't bug me that Yao only had 7 shots (maybe a little), but really that he did not have a high number of touches. An inside-out offense does not really work to it's full potential unless the ball actually goes in. I don't think this will change anytime soon unless Yao starts demanding the ball.
You sound like a freakin' idiot. While you're eating Freedom Fries, that were never even french in the first place, your guys in Irak are tasting Kaleshnikov Fries. Enjoy that ! Then again, you seem to juvenile to even care or comprehend... As for the rest of your posts, if you had bothered to watch the game, Yao got half his 16 points in 4th quarter garbage time... Oh, and i'm very impressed by the fact that a 7'6 guy, the tallest in the league, outrebounded Steve Francis by 1 and Moochie Norris by 2 boards...way to hit the boards Yao !
For those of us that were watching the game via NBAtv...Was that Heat play-by-play guy not the most annoying announcer ever. He sounded like Monte Hall on crack. At least he had Fratello there with him. I just had to get that out.
