And I thought coaches knew more than fans.

Francis and James can't prove him wrong if they can't get on the court for any significant minutes. True, Rafer may be a practice wonder, I don't know. In the real games I often "wonder" why he is playing.

97-80 was the high water mark in the 4th.

Agreed, they can give any team problems if they're hot, but the don't appear to have the leadership req'd to make a serious push.

They are legit, but what have they proven?

No, but I don't assume they'll finish ahead of us. Again, they've beaten good teams but are unproven. Their offense can be powerful but their defense is rock bottom right now at 107 allowed pg. When has a team in the defensive cellar made any big waves?

Derek certainly adds intangibles, but his stats just don't blow Smush's away, and he's a year older now and still undersized. Derek has 11.6 ppg, 3 apg, 2.3 rpg , 1 spg. Smush had 11.1, 2.8, 2.5 and 1.5. Odom has missed a lot of games in what, about every other season? Can't rely on him much. Bynum will improve, yeah, but Yao continues to improve and we upgraded w/ Steve, Scola, MJ and Bonzi. The magnitude of the changes ... i's just not even close.

We will disagree. It will be a regular-season failure (albeit minor one) for this team if they're not a top 4 seed. I expect by the time this team starts to hit it's stride it will be way too late for a second or even third seed, but 4th is attainable.

Do we have the required leadership?

    What have we proven?

GS and PHX both made bigger waves than us!

You can't just look at the stats with Fisher and I think you are downplaying those intangibles. Fisher has tons of experience and he is as clutch as they come.

I agree about Odom. He is always an injury waiting to happen.

I will also concede that our changes during the offseason were more significant but I am not so sure that we are better than the Lakers at this point.

my first reply, nice game! I think T-mac is serious this time and that's means he still can do what he wants to.

We've already performed much better in the regular season than they have, so they have to prove leadership, not us.

That we can be only 1 game away from the 4th seed with Yao missing well over 30 games and TMac out or injured for a lot, with a much much weaker bench than this year. Top 5-man lenovo for the year; what could we have done with health stars and a bench?

GS has not proven they can get a higher seed at all, and with their coach, it is unlikely they will develop a competent defense.

PHX is the number 1 offense yet they are not the rock-bottom defense making for a greater point differential than GS... most would concede that PHX is a rare aberration but still unlikely to win it all until they develop the ability to shut a team down.

No he has intangibles, but if they game isn't close I don't think Fisher has enough to swing the outcome anymore. Clutch alone doesn't help if you're down by 10.

We're just not going to agree. I have more confidence in this team than you and a realization that the off-season changes were massive. We're going to feel the strain on and off for a while as the team adjusts. But I think the equation is simple; with significant injuries to our stars last year and a much weaker bench, we were nearly a 4th seed. The changes we made were much more substanial than the other top teams and we'll be feeling their effect, but once we hit our stride this team will be scary good. Our starters (who some so ignorantly deride here), finished the season at the top of the 5-man lenovo (very meangingful) stat. Now we have a bench that will compete with any other.

Big shot, Rafer. Now let's get back on defense, and get some stops. Gotta get back to what we were doing in the first half.

What's the deal with Houston teams and the 3rd quarter? The Rockets have traditionally been a team that never comes out with a lot of fire in the 3rd....and the Texans haven't scored a 3rd Quarter TD since the Carolina game in week 2!!!
