Nope. I was talking about the one sequence that he bumped Mo off, got the offensive board and putback.

And at least on two occasions, he held Yao while the latter was shooting. Yao made a dunk and missed the other shot.

I guess that the rule books indicate clearly that if you defend a taller player, you can lock his arms, hold his arms, lock his waist without being called a foul.:p

Totally agree, Yao's post up jumper and one-handed slam were important shots. He seems to be trying harder to go strong to the hole and play less soft. I hate the Yao haters who think he had a bad game, he had a double/double despite being punjabbed by the refs.

Props to Juwan for a great game.

Yeah he just needs to put his STAMP earlier in the game. The way shaq does it, it just sets the tone of the game. Yao may one day start to get his stats but he'll never dominate the way shaq does. Those dunks and slams really kill your spirit. But then again Hakeem's jumpshots fading away out of bounds and behind the backboard had the same effect. :). Hopefully Yao will be a nice blend of power and finesse once the final product is done.

    Efficiency Ranking
Yao was statistically the best player last night, but people are keeping saying he played poorly.

    Efficiency Formula: (PTS + REB + AST + STL + BLK) - ((FGA - FGM) + (FTA - FTM) + TO)

    Yao: 14+11+1+0+2-(12-6)-(2-2)-3 = 19
    Mcgrady: 12+6+7+2+0-(11-5)-(2-1)-5 = 15
    Howard: 20+3+0+0+0-(12-7)-(6-6)-5 = 13
    Taylor: 12+3+3+2+0-(11-6)-(0-0)-3 = 12
    Jackson: 11+9+2+1+0-(10-4)-(1-1)-5 = 12
    Ward: 8+2+4+2+0-(5-2)-(2-2)-2 = 11
    Mutombo: 6+2+0+0+0-(2-2)-(2-2)-0 = 8
    Nachbar: 5+3+0+0+0-(2-1)-(4-3)-0 = 6
    Lue: 2+0+3+0+0-(8-1)-(0-0)-1 = -3

    Gasol: 15+6+3+2+0-(7-4)-(10-7)-2 = 18
    Swift: 18+3+1+1+1-(9-3)-(13-12)-1 = 16
    Wells: 13+6+1+4+0-(13-6)-(0-0)-2 = 11
    Miller: 6+5+2+1+0-(5-2)-(2-2)-0 = 11
    Williams: 7+1+7+3+0-(7-3)-(0-0)-4 = 10
    Watson: 10+1+3+0+0-(5-3)-(2-2)-3 = 9
    Battier: 6+2+0+1+0-(4-2)-(2-2)-0 = 7
    Cardinal: 3+2+0+2+1-(5-0)-(3-3)-0 = 3
    Jones: 4+0+0+1+0-(4-2)-(0-0)-1 = 2
    Wright: 5+3+2+0+0-(7-2)-(2-1)-2 = 2

Honestly I think people are frustrated with Yao not because he is playing poorly, but because he is not meeting expectations. Yao can be so much better than he played yesterday and we all know that.

He was close last night to having a great game. He just needs to get better position (which I am sure he is working on and doing the best he can) and he will be able to dominate nightly. Right now he plays well and is definitely an asset on the court, but he definitely is not dominating right now.

Yao started last night's game with 3 dunks and it did not work out.;)

I guess that Yao needs to start the game with 10 dunks and then his defenders will be so scared of him that they have to pull his pants to slow him down.

its funny, in phil jackson's new book he writes how 60-70% of shaq's points usually come in the first half. i know shaq can also be a strong finisher (when he's not clanking the FTs) but its nice to see yao not developing this tendency (especially with his conditioning problems).

in fact, what encourages me more than anything about yaos development and keeps my expectations high are the way he has finished so many games.

I'm sure a lot of shaq not scoring too much in the 2nd half deals mostly with his FT problems in the 4th and how they really don't want him to touch the ball. He usually spends most of the 4th quarter on the line. But IF yao sets the tone early, then late in the game when they have to pay even more attention to him on defense he wont' have that problem because he is a good FT shooter except for last game which I'm sure is a fluke. Of course I know he'd rather start off playing well faster but sometimes it doesn't happen. I'm known for being a slow starter myself when playing ball. I need a good stream of sweat before I can start playing well.
