is it just me or are we thinking the wrong thing here? those fingers should not affect his rebounding and defensive presence? this is why i think yao's still one dimensional. we only think of him as a scorer.
So True, they are playing hard, but seem uninspired, like "no worries." I know it is a long season, but it is almost playoff time, crank it up! Unfortunately, that is not the "personality" of this team. They don't get angry, they aren't mean, they are very "laid back." On the other hand, for a team that is "tanking," the Bucks seemed very aggressive. Yao is in a mini-slump. TMac looked "mad" the whole game (which is good), but he refused to speak back to team mates when they talked to him. Strange. Nevertheless, another win.
He couldn't even palm the ball to dunk on that missed dunk in the third and you think you don't need ball control to control rebounds?
uh palming to dunk the ball is different than rebounds. have u dunk before and have u grab a rebound? yao's not even jumping for the rebounds for god sakes.
if you guys watch the games there are always at least 3 Rockets along with Yao to grab the defensive rebounds with take away from Yao's stats!!! but I agree about getting must needed offensive rebounds that he should be if he is having trouble holding on to the ball cuz of his fingers then i'll let him slide by but if that's not the reason then there shouldnt be any other excuse!!
Altho dunking and rebounding are different things, when it comes to yao. i doubt any of those are hard for him
For god sakes you try and go about your work day grabbing things in split seconds with your two middle fingers tapped and see how you do.
can u rebound w/ 2 hands? who's asking him to rebound w/ one hand? dunking w/ one hand is different. he missed that dunk by dunking w/ one hand? do u even play basketball?
I've played basketball. But since you think that only the two kind happen I guess you haven't. The ball comes at different spins, angles with defenders in the lane. Two handed rebounds are not always possible.
w/ how tall yao is, yes it can be for him. and he can even tip them. i don't mind his offense b/c it will come back. yao's just too good offensively to be like this offensively. but his rebounding and defense are inexcusable. deke tapes his fingers and it's fine.
On the rebounding end, Yao does need to be more aggressive. But recognize the fact that Yao oftentimes boxes out his own man to allow the other Rocket players to get the board. Also, Yao is not at all one dimensional. His defensive presence is felt everytime a player penetrates the lane and finds Yao in the middle. Yao alters a huge number of shots when he's playing. Blocking shots is not the only indicator of playing defense.
i dont know if i have high expectations for yao. it seems like these past 2 games he has been invisible most of the game b/c his shots don't go in. i just want to see even when he misses shots, we still feel his presence and he is still a "feared" guy.
^ makes the 2 games v. the jazz that much more huge. and JVG agrees w/ me. it's NOT yao's offense (that WILL come back). its his rebounding AND pick and roll defense. those have to improve. the # 1 thing that makes us go is controlling the boards.
