completely understandable, lil pun. I've found out that big brother finds more offensive than stereotypes based on race. It bothers me that people in latin america who search this site might run into a thread that refers to people as "Illegals". If one does a search for Spanish newspapers, one will find that many come to this site and use your quotes after translation. http://doblemblog.com/?p=477 http://www.clarin.com/diario/2007/07/13/um/m-01456527.htm I have always believed that what makes this site great are the posters like sishir who know everything on every topic, or Di who works for the rockets, or mark, an up and coming broadcaster in collegestation, Jessie the ex intern at 610...every diversity united under one common goal. Even under one common goal, I see that some can get away with more, maybe the site needs another name change to Clutch's fans and Maybe my 13 dollars a month is only 1/16 of what some of you donate; but I just felt i had to vent a little. PS:Texanskan, is your Gf hot? here is a message that an overseas fan sent me a while back
I also hope no one takes your post as one with any sort of racist agenda, as I stated in my previous post I didn't feel that was the case. I wouldn't have even replied, maybe only to say that I was glad you were okay, if Rocket G didn't make the comment about "everyone understands why" you used the race in your descriptions. I guess I was the only one who didn't understand why. I understand and I'm sure anyone who watches the news understands who the potential criminals are. I guess I see it a little different since I am on the potential criminal side. I hope it doesn't go to the D&D, I just wanted to understand the benefit of using the race, unless you want every midtown white person to clench their purse if they saw me, what a wonderful feeling I would have in midtown just trying to enjoy the bar/lounge scene! Not like it would be anything new Your last comment about why white people need to talk different could lead this into a D&D thread so I will reserve my comments on that.
This is an interesting thought and you may be right. Sort of like how parents tend to be harder on their own kids when they are with a group.
I respect your view and yes it must be difficult knowing some will pre-judge you but I also don't think most white women are running scared from the black man at the bar but they are concerned with the folks walking the street and just on pure facts the vast majority of bums/hustlers and criminals in the midtown area who "work the streets" are black. I am pretty sure most folks would be just as or very wary of a white/hispanic/asian who was "walking the streets" If I were you I would be very upset at the element who causes these crimes because it reflects poorly on you to many strangers. I know I get sick when I here about "hate" crimes commited by white people. Like I said before, everyone no matter your age/sex/race be carefull and maybe we can prevent some folks from being harmed. I have friends from all backgrounds rich-poor black-white and I would hate to hear that anyone was profiled but in our world it is something that comes into play based on overwhelming stats that back things up. You my friend take care and try not to worry about a few stupid racist's out there and don't worry about a young woman clinching her purse
I remember watching the news one time and it was a criminal on the Crime Watch thingy where you call 222-TIPS, and the only description was 5'10" 180 black male with a white T-Shirt and low hair cut in the Spring area. I looked to my wife and said, OMG, it's me! I robbed a bank!
Yeah exactly. NY is one of the safest big cities in the US. This is all a result of Guiliani putting thousands of police onto the streets. In Houston, like in this instance, streets are generally unpatrolled and virtually dead. A person walking in an empty street with no police nor OTHER pedestrians walking around, its easier for a crime to occur and criminal getting away. It's really not that hard to imagine.
My brother just told me that Rusty Hardin was even jacked recently, right in front of his West U. home. Wow.
I saw a robbery in the parking lot of Wal-mart once that was similiar to your story. The guy robbed an older white female's purse and held it in the air so his ride could pick him up. The lady was running towards him screaming trying to chase him down but the a car pulled up and they got away. The car seemed to be a 95 ish model of a honda accord in a dark green color maybe? I wonder if it's the same guy.
texanskan, I think we might know some of the same people back home. I've actually heard the following about the situation you were in: "She had 3 dollars cash and her wallet full of credit cards, which the idiots keep using, they are going to get caught." Is this true?
In fact, NYC is the safest city in the US. Guiliani gave much of the credit to the influx of Hispanics (Mexicans?) because they don't commit any crimes. From personal experience, I tend to agree with him.
Some of you people are just too sensitive or just looking to start drama. What do you expect the OP to say. There was a male who snatched my girl's purse without giving a description? Silly. There is no racial agenda in the original post. Just relaying a story. It's messed up as I do feel that it makes people treat me differently if I am at a club or lounge because of crime activity around the area. That has more to do with people trying to protect themselves than being racist though. I think so anyway. The areas where large groups of people hang out, downtown, mid-town, Galleria, Macgregor/288 area, etc. should be crawling with cops. There is no excuse for it not to be. I have many problems with the mayor of this city and th biggest one is the fact he and the council seem to try to address everything they can except the rising crime and violent crime rate. It is amazing that all elected officials seem to not care what is going on in this city. The only thing that will make them care is someone on the council or the mayor himself to become a victim of crime. Seems like that is the only time they want to act. It is sad it is that way, but it seems that is how it is nowadays in this city. Funny as now I don't really hang out downtown or midtown much now because of traffic, crime and violence. Maybe I am just paranoid, but I know that by hanging in my lil part of the county, I can avoid most, if not all of that.
This does not sound racial to me at all, just a description. This sounds a bit racial to me, why point out that 95% of the criminals committing these crimes are black? I guess it is just stating the facts, but seemed unnecessary in the post.... Just my .02 DD
I really don't think the poster intended this to target a certain race...all he was doing to describe the muggers. I have been mugged/had a gun pointed at me before by two black dudes. I didn't have a purse on me and they only stole my high school ring and stole my ex's wallet & phone. Really stupid, if you ask me!!!
I would rather hear: "we were walking out of Buffalo Wild Wings" "we were walking down West Grey St." "in front of Cyclone Annya restaurant" "a young black male between 5-7 and 5-9 maybe 150-160 lbs" "two more black men in a 4 door sedan (small)" than "we were walking down the street" "some guys jumped us" "they got away" Texanskan was just trying to describe a situation. He wasn't prejudiced for or against the street in midtown. He wasn't prejudiced for or against the Cyclone Annaya restaurant. and he wasn't prejudiced for or against the race of the people who jumped him. You people need to quit being so damned sensitive about race.
