Well, like I said.... If they've already got a gun pointed at you, it's not worth the risk of getting in a gunfight and getting yourself or someone else killed. Not to protect a wallet or purse. Glad your story didn't have a worse ending, Texanskan.
Not that this helps now, but obviously they could have seen if the Taco Bell had videotape. They could have tried to make an issue out of it with the Taco Bell, to at least get a hold of the videotape, that could have potentially been helpful when filing a report. Tends to be more movement when there is more evidence.
thanks, and to the posters saying if you had a gun in this situation you could of protected yourself well there was a car with two more men in it with what I assume were loaded guns. I am just glad she is ok as far as I go I am pretty sure these guys were only looking for a grab and go purse because that is what he tried at first and the reason the weapon was pointed to me is because I looked like a threat to him. I just want ya'll to be carefull that is the only reason I posted this, most of my friends and family don't even know about it. I will tell them with the same intention, to be alert and carefull.
It's time to call Charles Bronson into Midtown. I'm surprised they tried to jack you in such a high traffic area. Even Sunday nights have a bit of a crowd. I live in Midtown and find myself constantly scanning the area for bums, crackheads, and thugs. I actually go out of my way to make eye contact (if only briefly), just to appear aware of my surroundings. Last thing I want is someone sneaking up behind me.
Dude you're awesome. Keep it up. Cause I believe everything turns out the best in the end -- the world has a way of letting the best survive and the nutcases loose.. keeps the smart ones living, ya know?
i would have used krav maga to disarm him and then a fierce attack shroyuken. While he was dizzy and groggy and had those little ducks circling around his head, I would then cast +5 convert and turn him into a Christian so he wouldn't commit any more crimes. Then I would probably drop his pants and compare penis sizes to find that mine was longer. then, like my gf would be like "OMZG!!! U R SO MY HERO!!!" and then she give me the sex right on the sidewalk. and i am the winnar!
D&D? I'm glad your girlfriend and you are OK, and I don't care what race he/she is...a thug is a thug. The only time I was ever robbed was by black dudes in a similar situation, and I agree with posters, had I had a gun I would have certainly been killed or killed someone. This story makes me sick to my stomach. Great account and thanks for sharing.
iam black but even i know that blacks commit most pity crimes like stealing and shotting up rappers and sleeping with lil kim.
The others probably wouldn't be a factor. Muggers are cowardly, they aren't looking to get into a shootout, they are looking to get free money off of easy marks. You blast one of their accomplices and the two guys in the car more than likely bug out. The bigger issue is if the mugger had a gun. You don't want to try to get your gun on him before he can get his on you, then you are just trusting to luck. If the actual mugger is unarmed and depending on the others for backup, pulling a gun is probably a good option.
So you are saying the world will be better off without men who refuse to be victims to criminals who threatened their lives and the lives of their loved ones? Wow. You're awesome.
Unfortunately violent robberies happen all over the place and not just Houston. Last week a bar I've played at a few times got robbed the wife of the manager beat up. This bar is in a suburb of Minneapolis and not an area known for high crime. What happened was that the robbers barged in at 10AM when the only there was the manager's wife. She didn't resist and gave them $5,000 that was there. They then dragged her across the floor and beat her. One of them tried to shoot her but the gun jammed. They were going to dump her in the cooler when the phone rang and they took off. Unfortunately they wore masks and she can't identify them. So violent crime happens even in the lily white suburbs of Minneapolis.
I have to chime in with my dismay that just because someone mentions a criminal jackass's race & a crime stat that they immediately think that the BBS is going to descend into some race war. Most of us probably are mature enough to understand what he was describing and why... I'm just amazed that with all the HPD saturation in that area to nab potential DWIers that nothing more became of this. If you think about it, that's a pretty high profile area for a group of criminals to be operating in so brazenly. Freaks me out b/c my brother lives right around the corner from there. It's funny, I live in NYC now, and I can honestly say that I have never once felt uneasy walking around Manhattan, and parts of Brooklyn & Queens, at the least - even in supposedly "bad" areas. I know that Manhattan has become a post-9/11 security bubble, but the stories I hear from folks hear comparing what it's like now to what it was not too long ago... Anyway, Houston does seem to have descended into criminal hell over the last few years, even pre-Katrina to an extent. Glad to hear you guys are okay. I guess it's all about situational awareness. Big guy or not, the next time your Spidey Sense starts tingling duck, you'll probably duck into someplace rather than keep walking.
that's b/c they're all under the Pierce Elevated exit giving out speeding tickets! yea, i'm still bitter about that.
If I might ask a question, what's yall's perception back home about the level of crime? Please don't go on a diatribe about Katrina, Mayor White, former Mayor Lanier, HPD, etc. I don't get back home often, and my family stills lives down there. Just wondering how safe you guys feel. And to the guy who posted something about going John Woo on the robber - please don't respond. I know how you feel, and as a gun owner (albeit one who had to leave them behind when I moved) you embarass me.
Or across from Red Door... I thought everyone knew to head south to 59 if they had anything to drink. Getting on 45 from Midtown, or 10 from Studemont is asking for trouble after the bars close.
