It's only one game. That's the first thing I have to say. Also, I didn't see the whole game, just these Dorsey highlights. With that said, I was impressed with his boxing-out and rebounding skills. His shots don't look good but they look good enough since they're just put backs. The one block was also a great play. I feel like playing 14/15 down low off the bench brings alot of energy and physicality.

I really like what I saw last night. The main thing is that he really knows how to get position for rebounds and he is strong enough to get position against anyone.

The other thing I saw was how well he boxed out. There were a couple of plays he extended on the offensive end where he did not even touch the ball, but he boxed out well enough that the defender couldn't get the rebound and the Rox got a put back.

Weak Side Shot Blocking and his help defense in the paint were exceptional. He was very quick leaving his man to help Landry or Scola when needed. Very good hops and enough quickness that allow him to leave his man to help on defense and then get back.

Still looked a little out of position at times but showed great court awareness that allowed him to react to the situation.

That game made me cautiously optimistic. He reminds me of Charles Barkley rebounding. Not on offense obviously but definitely on the offensive boards for one game. It would be a blessing for the Rockets if last night was his coming out party and he could bring that type of play every night. It would certainly mean the end of Chuck Hayes.

    This.

Yes, it was only one game, but it was an important game against a seemingly up and coming Menphis team that got literally obliterated at their own home court.

Our whole team defense picked it up in the 4th quarter, led by Dorsey. He sealed the paint. Once there was no more easy layups and putbacks, that meant game over.

If we could see this kind of effort and effectiveness from Joey with some consistency, then I think we might have found ourselves a center that can protect the paint.

Fantastic game from Dorsey. I really really want to see this on a consistent basis from this guy. Surprisingly well-spoken too, most basketball players with adrenaline flowing from the entire game aren't that well-spoken, lol.

Joey Dorsey has barely played and is constantly benched or playing in the D-league. Birdman averaged 5.68 blocks per 48 minutes played last season which was the best in the NBA.

Yes, I agree. He had a good game, but lets not go crazy about this guy. He's still only 6'6" tall, has bad hands, no offense and can't make free throws. If he continues to improve I could see him getting some of Chucks minutes.

I am taking a very guarded approach to this performance, but he was very impressive. I liked seeing how he bodied up the Grizz on the boards and created space. I was impressed when he blocked out 2 Grizz to give Scola the easy rebound, then finishing after Scola found him under the basket. Great help block on Randolph, but he could get away with that because Randolph is a black hole with the ball and knew he would shoot the ball. But having a shotblocking/shot altering presence in the low post is extremely welcome. Keep up the hard work Joey, it looks like it is starting to pay off.

Against the really good teams in the playoffs, you can't be just athletic. You got to use your brain too, but Joey has improved in that aspect a lot since Day 1."

Good luck with that part. Anyways props to Dorsey for a great homecoming game and a much needed W for the Rockets.

If only had Joey been more down to earth earlier !! I'm thinking the Rockets are also looking at the need of a center and figure maybe Dorsey is the answer. If they come to that conclusion, say goodbye to a Iggy and Dalembert deal or a Butler and Haywood deal.

Birdman's early years aren't much different than Dorsey. Birdman had played on 4 different minor league teams, including the inaugural season of the NBDL and a He didn't get called up from the D-League until his 3rd year(2001). When he was called up, he was constantly benched.

Jiangsu Nangang (1999–2000) (CBA chinese basketball association)
New Mexico Slam (2000) (IBA minor league team, folded after 2 seasons)
Fargo-Moorhead Beez (2000–2001) (former IBA minor league team, folder after 1st season joining CBA.)
    Fayetteville Patriots (2001)
    Denver Nuggets (2001–2004)

IT'S ONE GAME. I'm happy for the guy and all, but let's see him do it with some consistency before we all go crazy over Dorsey. You want a reality check, try and trade him and see what offers you get. Bet they won't be much based off one game.

one area of improvement i saw was his passing once he rebounded the ball. on multiple occasions he passed to landry who either finished or got fouled. another was when he rebounded and passed to budinger who was cutting down the lane. bud missed the layup but good pass none the less. dorsey's court awareness has definitely improved since he last played. I hope this is a sign of better things to come from him.

Let's not get too ahead of ourselves. Hayes is still one of the best defensive stoppers in the entire league. His combination of quickness and strength makes him invaluable for what he gets paid. I don't think dorsey possesses the quickness that hayes does against quicker mobile forwards.

and all of you who say kelvin cato - that year when we had the yao-cato front court we were an unbelievable defensive team. Under jvg cato was more than just servicable. Plus who can forget the steve to cato alleyoops.

I can see your logic, but i highly doubt he turns into a Howard type player or "the next Howard". I can see a better version of Ben Wallace.

You're right, it is just one game... but what he did in the game goes far beyond what the stats say. He clogged the paint, had deflections, boxed out, and made Gasol work for his points when he was in the game. Definitely reminded me of Deke.

If he plays the way he did against the Grizzlies, I can see Andersen losing minutes. The Dorsey-Landry combo i think worked extremely well last night. But we'll have to see how it works in future games.
