Are they removing Johnson and Harris?

Why? Adelman loves Taylor as a young player. Even if he's a third stringer, he's only costing Les ~$1.56M in salary and tax, and he'll still be on a dirt cheap contract for two more years after that.

If the Rockets can do a Jeffries (plus cash)-for-scrub trade at the deadline to sneak under the threshold, I think they'd greatly prefer that to trading another young asset.

I'm not saying that Taylor WON'T be traded. Just that it is certainly not a foregone conclusion, nor is it something that is necessarily in the Rockets' best interests.

Hoopshype has us at $69,020, 616 which is excluding Johnson and Harris. I subtracted Ariza to get that figure.

The Lux Taxline is at: 70.307 million, who is missing in their assessment?

Where is the missing $2.8m that is missing from their site?

Well, hot damn, worzel! I think you/ESPN Trade Machine is/are right. Shamsports.com's salary figures come to the same conclusion.

$1.54M (after waiving all non-guaranteed contracts) appears to be the figure.

DD, you're not adding Courtney Lee's salary. Also, I think Hoopshype is not counting Chuck Hayes's salary (still showing it as a "team option"). And Hayes's salary number is no longer accurate. It was adjusted downward now that certain performance incentives are being listed as "unlikely".

Hoopshype is not the best place to get salary information. Shamsports.com is better, as is ESPN.com's Trade Machine.

Aha, Lee, yes, what is he at? That might be the difference.

But yes, that makes sense....not counting Chuck and Lee, ....got it.....

    Shamsports link for the lazy

So you can take C-lee's 1.352 away from Trevors 6.322 giving you 4.97m less.....which you then take off of 78.555, leaving the team at 73.585m

Then you can subtract, 1.74 by jettising Harris and Johnson getting you down to 71.845m, leaving you about 1.538m over the taxline.

    Man, that is close....

That $1.54 figure might be enough for them to swallow it is only $3 million less what they would collect from the league's Lux tax collection, probably not more than $5 million tops.

I mean, Morey better be getting some major bonuses from Les.

According to Hoopshype we have $70,373,256 in guaranteed contracts. With the LT at $70,307,000, that only leaves us $66,256 away

    http://hoopshype.com/salaries/houston.htm

    2010-2011:
If another trade doesn't go down between now and the trade deadline, then I can see us jettisoning Taylor and a small amount of cash for a conditional 2nd. Or Les just has to pay $66k this year (though that doesn't include the amount of money Les loses on the LT pool money which may not be that large this year anyway).

    2011-2012:
If we sign Brooks to a $10 millionish contract, we still have enough to sign a max player if Yao is not healthy. The bad thing is besides Melo, there isn't anyone deserving of that kind of contract - and he wants to head to NYC. But it could be split up say to sign Landry and ?? If Yao is healthy, we will have less than MLE type money left.

    trying to figure something out...

so by getting the TE and cutting the salary...will this save us any money if we take a big contract on like iggys...or will be basically the same thing...

say jeffries and ariza for iggy or jeffries and te for iggy (not realistic trade of course)

is there financial benefit for a future trade? I mean I know it will look better to another team only taking have the value of the contract back and getting picks.

They are not counting Chuck Hayes Contract, which is adjusted down to 1.97, I believe.

I made the same mistake as you, and Bima pointed me to a better reference site for salary info.

Got it. The logic still stands, though. By the deadline, the $2.13 m difference in salary becomes about $1 mil (for remaidner of year). So, it's easy enough to throw in, say, $2 mil to make it economically worthwhile for both teams.

So, are we official on that number $1.54 million over?

Which means dropping Harris and Johnson too.

It is what I got in my calculations as well.

ahh - I see that now. So we are not as close as I thought but still not that far away.

1.54 if we lose the non guaranteed contracts of Alexander Johnson and Mike Harris.

How long does a player have to be on your roster before you can trade him?

A great question, I seem to recall a 30 day window where a traded player could be traded again....

Maybe there is nothing like that anymore.

Do you think Lee is a prelude to another deal?

Have the Rockets announced a press conference to introduce the guy?

    Hmmmmmmm?

From Morey's 610 talk yesterday I didn't get any kind of hint that another deal was in the works so I woud expect they go through the normal press introductions. I can see another deal happening since they seem to be in a win now year since the future seems pretty uncertain on the cap, etc.

I don't see how they work up a $12.2 Iggy deal w/ a $6.3 TE, cash, picks combo.

Free agents signed/re-signed cannot be traded until the LATER to occur of (a) three months after signing or (b) December 15. Current examples: Luis Scola, Brad Miller.

Players acquired via trade can be traded at any time, EXCEPT that such players cannot be COMBINED with other players in a trade for two months. Current example: Courtney Lee.

Draft picks can be traded at any time, EXCEPT for the first 30 days after signing a contract. Current example: Patrick Patterson.

Players who sign offer sheets with another team that are matched cannot be traded without their consent for one full year and cannot be traded to the team who signed them to the offer sheet for one full year no matter what. Current example: Kyle Lowry.

Players who, by being traded, would lose their Bird rights, cannot be traded without their consent. Historical example: Devean George (whose exercise of this right scuttled the first iteration of the Jason Kidd-to-Mavericks trade).

Players with a no-trade clause in their contracts cannot be traded without their consent. To my knowledge, the only players with a no-trade clause are Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki and Paul Pierce.

    Hope this helps.

It's worth pointing out on the combined note -- Lee's salary is so small, most teams have a trade exception that would be able to take him on, or a low salary player that could be used for a side swap. Alternatively, the big exception acquired from Ariza would allow us to make all sorts of creative swaps.
