He was only playing 14.7 minutes a game his last year in Chicago and came away with an 8.4 million per year deal.

He has since shown what he can do as a starter for an entire year. This year, no matter how little he plays, is not going to make GMs forget about his year as a starter.

He will be making at least 10mil per year on his next deal, book it.

He has also shown that he has stone hands and is completely inept on offense.

Actually if they knew anything about value, then they would have handled the public demands a hell of alot differently. Part of the lure of Asik is that he was well known as a team player who never complains and sacrificed in Chicago.

Also this completely destroyed value with any teams that might have another quality center on their roster. What if Indiana or Chicago were hoping to get him and saw the fuss he had about playing with Dwight on the same roster???

Yeah... I question their knowledge of value around the league.

Asik was doing fine in Chicago. They wanted him to stay and planned to match any offer for him. why would you think he will not fit there again in the future?

The only reason that Chicago won't get Asik is their salary cap. Indiana has the best record on the league so far, their team plays well. I do not see any motivation for them to make change for Asik and any other for now.

its sad that a player making so much $$$, cant accept his role as a role player on a potentially great team...I would maybe understand if he took a huge paycut to come play for use but he didnt. The NBA is a business. We offered him far more then he would have got from any other team. He needs to either shut up and embrace his role, or shut up and count his money in silence

I get what you're saying, but I doubt Omer has hurt himself much. So Indy and Chicago don't want to trade for him now - that's good (for Omer) - because he wants to start. he's effectively scared off any team that wants him to play as a backup. role players can't often control where they're traded, but he's managed to narrow the pool to teams that would want him to start. it's obvious that, for him, playing for a contender is less important than getting starter's minutes. Fair enough.

I never said either team was a legit trade partner right now, just noting that the market shrinks down when Asik makes it clear that he will force a trade out of any organization that dares put him on the bench for whatever reason.

Yes, Asik played along well in Chicago.... but did he stay there?... No he signed in Houston to take a starting role...

The point is if you are a team that might already have, or might acquire a big man that could potentially put Asik on the bench at any given time, you are probably going to stay away from Asik now in trade to avoid this type of situation that Houston is in. You need to know that he's a team first guy, and just wants to win. I think that's a big question mark now.

In all actuality, it might be a big reason why the Pellies are now backing away from an Asik for Anderson deal seeing as how Davis might be spending alot of minutes at the 5 here in the future, and Asik might not like it if his minutes aren't starter caliber. I'm sure they'd love to have a true defensive center to play alongside Davis, but they also probably prefer someone who can take a back seat if ever asked to.

Just saying... GM's will use this situation against Morey in negotiations, and will limit potential trade partners at least a little bit.

    Dear Asik and your....

No matter what, Morey holds all the chips and this game will not end in your favor. The more you try to hold a knife up to Morey, he will hold a gun to you..

I wish you the best of luck in your venture....

I'm curious who else will get traded along with Asik. It's obvious that Morey wants a PF, and if he can he'll want that PF to be the 3rd star. That means you have give up something better than just Asik.

    My guesses are:
    1. Parsons
    2. DMo/Jones/Smith
    3. Cisco/Casspi
    4. Bev
    5. Lin

If you're the Hawks and you're trading Millsap to the Rockets, then you want Asik/Horford as your frontcourt, but you absolutely want Parsons to play the 3 and backup 4 in small lineups. I'd get one of DMo/Jones/Smith also.

If you're the Pellies, and you give up R.Anderson, then you want alot. Everyone knows how perfectly Howard/Anderson compliment each other. I'd want CP, but at least get Bev and Cisco/Casspi and DMo/Jones/Smith. I'd also think throwing in Jrue for Lin.

It's pretty clear that other players will have to be shipped out. I doubt we're going to have a new PF along with DMo/Jones/Smith and CP/Cisco/Casspi.

I don't think other teams see Asik as being so valuable that they'll just trade a good starting PF straight up for him. I think Lin would be more likely to be traded along with Asik if his contract wasn't $8m/yr. Because now it'll take a max PF salary to match both Asik and Lin, or some other combination of players to match approximately $8m/yr to return. That's hard to do, since the Rockets don't have roster space.

If I'm another GM, I absolutely want Parsons and some other forward backups or Bev.

Why do people say this, as if they know the future?

Asik started on the bench, then got a good contract from Rockets.

He is in control of his own destiny. He just needs to play well.

Best trade I can conjure up:

    Houston: Ersan Ilyasova, Jeff Withey

    Depth Chart:
PG: Beverley | Lin | Brooks
SG: Harden | Garcia | Brewer
    SF: Parsons | Casspi
PF: Ilyasova | Jones | Montiejunas
    C: Howard | Smith | Withey

    Why the Rockets do it?
    - Clear frontcourt clutter.
    - Acquire a young, proven stretch Forward.
    - Acquire a young, defensive-minded backup Center.
    - Gain more traditional rotations.

Milwaukee: Tyreke Evans, Lou Amundson, 2nd Round Pick (Houston)

    Depth Chart:
PG: Evans | Knight | Wolters
SG: Mayo | Neal | Antetokounmpo
SF: Butler | Delfino | Middleton
PF: Henson | Udoh | Amundson
    C: Sanders | Pachulia

    Why the Bucks do it?
    - Clear frontcourt clutter.
    - Acquire a young, starter-caliber Guard/Forward.
    - Acquire a backup stretch Forward.
    - Acquire a pick.

New Orleans: Omer Asik, Luke Ridnour

    Depth Chart:
PG: Holiday | Ridnour | Roberts
SG: Gordon | Morrow | Rivers
SF: Aminu | Miller | Childress
    PF: Davis | Anderson
    C: Asik | Smith | Stiemsma

    Why the Pelicans do it?
    - Clear back court clutter.
    - Acquire a top 5 defensive and rebounding Center.
    - Acquire a veteran Point Guard.
    - Move Davis to his natural position.

Posted this in the Random Trade Thread also, but I'd imagine the idea of swapping Asik for Jeff Green or Thad Young would be a proposal that both sides would consider.

The questions then become: 1) What "sweeteners" would it take (if any), and 2) Is that extra contract year that Green/Young both have worth it to us.

So a good C for a good PF wouldn't work? If anyone other than the Blazers or the Wolves ask for Parsons, most likely there is no deal.

Sure they're all "good", but I think Millsap and Anderson are better PFs than Asik is a C. Smart GMs are going to make Morey pay for what he wants, because they can make him. The Rockets have clearly intended that they are make title runs beginning with this year, and having Asik sit on the bench past the trade deadline would be disastrous to the Rockets plans.
