So sounds like Morey and McHale were able to finally educate him on how trades work in the NBA, and I would be willing to guess that the conversation was basically them telling him he can either continue to not be available and be suspended (docked pay), or he can play along until Dec 15th, and collect his checks in the meantime.

That's not the same. And I am not talking about not treating players well.

Very few GM is so trade happy as Morey. I am not saying it's not good for the team. I like how Morey always keeps trying to improve the team.

You can't deny that the Rockets is the team that has the most trade rumors ever since Morey took the rein. And it is plenty obvious that he gets players (not always, but many times) not necessarily because he believes they fit our team but because they are good assets for later deals.

You can't find any player more professional than Battier and even he said that the constant trade rumors did get to him and other players.

I don't know about you. For me, as a fan, it's pretty hard to root for and get attached to some players only to see them leave the next season. This has happened so many times in recent years I almost feel numb.

I know some fans just care about winning. But I care about players too. I want to root for players I like, not just some numbers of production. And I hate revolving door rosters.

This. I'm glad the management seems to treat the players well while they are here, and I like that they bring in mostly high character guys. But it makes it that much more unpleasant when the people exiting are ones I like.

Hopefully the roster turnover will settle down now (once Asik is gone, anyway).

This is ridiculous. If a role player gets traded 10 times he's more privileged than 99.9% of the rest of working America. There's no limits or rules on how many trades a GM can make. We're trying to win a championship. I don't care how many trades Morey has to make to get us there. No one will remember that crap when the balloons and confetti are coming out of the ceiling.

Rockets are going to trade him for trash soon. Nobody wants to pay much for a whiny big man who is owed 15 million next year.

I have to agree with this, but as a GM its also a fine line between loyalty and bettering the franchise. Tts prolly the reason we aren't GMs and that the NBA afterall is a business.

Like I said, some fans care only about winning. I am not that. To each his own.

And what you said about privilege and stuff is irrelevant to what I was talking about. Not sure why you brought that in.

    Asik, etc..

McHale claims that Asik is sick and that he will try to play him with Howard again on some occasions. I hope so, because we will get more for him after December and closer to the trade deadline.

I don't like the way McHale plays them though. He should just do it for 2 minutes per quarter instead of 6 minutes to start the game and six more minutes to start the 3rd quarter. Since it is a long season with back to back games frequently, I prefer to see Howard at 32 minutes and Asik at 24 minutes per game. We get the rim protection and we keep them both fresh. It may also minimize the injury bug.

Hard for fans to root for someone who is not all about teamwork and winning.
No1 priority are minutes and starting

No2: Winning championship, getting along with Howard, teammates, winning games

I understand you though but there is a fair chance that he would not buy into Rockets history and leave for a contender after his third year if Rocket had not gone for Howard.

I always thought Lin and Asik were signed because we could not get a Star or Allstar at first. But then we got Harden and it all STARTED.
Lin is making the best of his situation.

I would never sign with Morey if I was a player... BUT, we wasn't going to win a championship with what we had. Most GMs just want to put a product on the floor that will sale tickets... Morey is actually trying to make a great team... And it's not like he flipped big name players. Mostly a bunch of role players that can be replaced. You're not going to win a championship waiting on role players to get better.

Fans were tweeting him over the weekend about coming back and winning a title...plus, he doesn't want to miss his 73k/game pay check..

You know... I had a dream that we traded Omer Asik and a 2nd round pick for Rudy Gay... Not sure if that would ever happen but just wanted to share that with y'all.

Rudy Gay? The statistical black hole with insanely bad efficiency and the crazy inflated contract?

That's the exact opposite of Moreyball.

    No, no and no.

whoever we get from the Asik trade, i want him/them to be unselfish players, who is/are committed to team ball. so Rudy Gay is a no no.

Yes, Morey signed them because we could not get anyone better. Nothing wrong with that.

Lin's situation is a lot better than Asik because he can play both the 1 and the 2. So a 3-man back court rotation gives Lin a significant role even after Harden and Beverley emerged.

If Asik could play the 4, or Howard could, (that is, if the TT worked) then it would not have been so bad for Asik. It would be kind of like Lin's. But once the TT failed, Asik pretty was renegaded to a 12-mpg bench player no matter how hard he worked.

Sure, ideally, Asik should have just sucked it up and tried to play as well as he could in his limited minutes and waited for a trade.

NBA is a business. Asik will most likely offer a max contract once this contract expire if he continue to improve.

If he accepted his role as a backup, playing 10 to 12 minutes (probably in 3 to 5 minutes stretch), he will not even offer 8 m/yr on the next contract.

Whiny or not, centers like Asik still have value in today's league, and he and his agent know it.
