This has to be the best college game I've ever seen right there with Michigan St/Kentucky from a few years back. Edit - Forgot about Duke/Kentucky...
This year's tournament is crazy as hell! Everyone's bracket is busted, lol. I think I picked the right team to win though...Kentucky
I grew up about 5 blocks from Butler's campus, so I wanted Xavier to win this game because Butler can beat them. But the blown non-foul call at the end of regulation made me feel bad for K-State. They deserved to win today and will advance to the Final Four on Saturday. It will take a true miracle for Butler to beat them. Assuming KSU advances to Indy, I hope they win it all.
I would love to see KSU win it all. Assuming that they can beat a very motivated Butler team, the only team that I see that can beat them before the final game is Ohio State. They (KSU) remind me a lot of my old high school girls basketball team 2 years after I graduated high school (it was the '93 team). They lost to one team 3 times (just like KSU did to KU) but made it to the state tournament. Their nemesis was upset in their first game (just like KU got upset by Northern Iowa) and that gave them an easy path to win it all. Could be the same scenario for KSU - we'll have to see how it plays out.
They definitely can. I said before the tourney that they were the hardest team for me to figure out, because their A+ game might be the best of any team's... but they're also prone to some real stinkers where they can't shoot to save their lives. Very boom or bust, which is why (unfortunately) I picked them to lose to Syracuse. (Really sucks now, given that my other three FF picks are alive and well). Clemente is the fastest player in the country and has a great jumper. Pullen is that mentally tough, in-your-face lead dog that every champion has (best analogy I heard last night: Pullen is everything Sherron Collins was supposed to be). Tons of athletic bigs, with at least two (Kelly/Samuels) that can create their own shot in the low post. Defensive intensity from everyone. I just wish they had one more shooter in the mix to keep them from extended cold stretches - Sutton's a great defender, but he hurts floor spacing on O. Anyway, I'll stop rambling, but point is - when K-State is on its game, I really think the only team left that has the talent to beat them is Kentucky. They're damn good.
^^ Yea, I agree with everything you said. I hate picking as I feel that I am jinxing things here but I can't really see Butler beating K State - now with me saying that K State could have their worst game of the tournament. There is no way that Frank Martin is going to let them take Butler lightly. I just don't think that K State is a good matchup for Butler. So, I'll predict K State, Kentucky, Duke, and Ohio State to the Final 4. However, how great would it be if West Virginia upset Kentucky and met KSU in the final? Bob Huggins, the coach of 1 season at KSU, facing off against one of his old schools and a former assistant in Frank Martin. It may not be the type of match-up that CBS is hoping for but damn, it would give a great storyline. But I think it could very well be Kentucky against Kansas State in the final.
Baylor is real good tall, athletic, solid guards on the outside, with big forwards and center on the inside. A perfect combination for a team looking to do something in the March Madness tourney. I picked them in my final 4 bracket, and the game on Sunday against Duke should be a fun one. I did not know how they would match up against Samhan but their quick zone has bugged the crap out of him and the entry passes to him. Baylor seems to live and die from the perimeter though which could be their weakness.
I can't believe this Baylor team honestly. I watched them play my Buffs in Boulder and they got manhandled by a small, unatheltic team. Their current play is quite surprising.
It's not really surprising if you have been following them. That was a fluke game. We have beaten the teams we should have so far. It gets more interesting Sunday. We're on the map now. A run like this will be expected next season.
It'll be a good game but I agree that Duke will prevail. If Scheyer can get going... that's just another weapon that Baylor will have to deal with on Sunday.
I was thinking Zoubek would be the difference maker against Lomar. Duke's center has had a quite (low-scoring) but solid (rebounding) performance thus far in the tournament.
wow. horrible execution and shot selection from clemente and pullen down the stretch. congrats butler.
They were just running iso plays for themselves for the last 5 minutes of the game. Even more annoying is the fact that their center was dominating Butler's frontline. just horrible execution at the end.
