Can't but help but smile to see Texas choke a game away. No one can blame anyone but themselves they have the talent to beat an average ACC team. Miss ft's will always comeback to haunt you.
Is it just me or were the refs favoring Wake the entire game? That over-the-back call on James was bogus. Texas was called for a bunch of ticky tack fouls on the perimeter while Wake Forrest was not. Still though, the game could have been had if they had hit their free throws.
I'm a Longhorn and it's rather poetic to see them lose thanks to free throws. I'm not sure what Rick Barnes deserves after this monumental collapse since being ranked number 1, but it ain't pretty. They just never learned to be comfortable with fundamentals of the game.
Texas has to have the lowest IQ of any team I've ever seen, from the coach to the players. It's insane. Why in the world is Gary f'n Johnson the only guy within 70 feet of J'Covan when he gets doubled? It's not J'Covan's fault - he couldn't have held it or he would've been whistled for a 5-second violation, and they had him trapped so he couldn't dribble out. He found the open man, and passed. Unfortunately, Jordan Hamilton (among others) ran away from the ball, and not only didn't come back when Brown was trapped, but didn't give Johnson an outlet to burn more time/get to a better shooter. Yes, Gary has bumped his FT% up to 70, but he is not a good shooter, and he is not your second choice of who you want at the line in that situation.
The possession arrow rule is the one college ball rule that I still don't understand after all these years of watching. Mind explaining it? The announcers never seem to say how it works or what determines who the arrow points to.
UT is young, inexperienced. I also don't think they have a leader. James is not a leader, Pittman is DEFINITELY not a leader. UT is completely unfocused and that is why even with all this talent, they falter. Hopefully, next year one of the players emerge as a leader.
The arrow starts on one team, and after every jump ball the arrow moves to the other team. Not that complicated.
Simple and completely unbiased. Works a lot better for me than the jump ball, which penalizes the shorter player, even if he made the hustle play to tie up the player with the ball.
It doesn't bother me that the taller player has an advantage, that's part of the game. Taller players also have an advantage when going for rebounds. Smaller players usually have an advantage when handling the ball, it's all part of the game. What bothers me is when the official can't throw the ball up straight on a jump ball. Now, back to todays games. I don't ever remember so many upsets and overtime games on the first day of the tournament.
Not to knock on this post but all teams are young and inexperienced. And by the one and done rule it is hard to make age accountable very rare to college hoops players stay all four years. Plus Rick Barnes said he does not mind giving up his chance at a championship to raise his players to be prepared for the next level. If I was Texas I would look to replace him as coach, he gets players but can never get them to stay and fulfill a commitment to watching their school succeed. I know Tech sucks and I have no room to talk on this issue, but Texas should be able to compete for final 4 appearances regularly.
ahhhh crap. I am now competing for last place. Side note: what's Barnes contract like? After this year, fair or not, next year could be make or break.
The only way I can win is if somebody that nobody picked to win it all does indeed win it all. I can't believe I picked Georgetown to win it all, if not for that, I would be looking really nice tied for 7th. But no, Georgetown has to blow it by losing to Ohio.
watching college game day on espn apparently out of the 4.8 million brackets entered 56 are perfect still also at the end Digger talking about Dick V: "he's trying to figure out his vibrator" (talking about dick's cell phone)
