I didn't go to either school, so here's an unbiased perspective: I don't think it's hilarious, dumb, or even presumptuous of UT to feel that way. What's good for Texas schools is good for the State of Texas as a whole, and in terms of academics and MONEY, I'd think the Pac 10 would be a no-brainer.
I don't get what you're saying. Texas is leaving the Big 12 and is highly regarded academically. All that money and the spotlight that football provides affects everything, and being in a conference with the likes of UT and the UC system would be a damn good thing for all parties involved. Money + prestige + great sports = more money, more prestige, and greater sports.
It affects research, grants, etc... the Pac-16 will do something special academically as well, the have plans... Which is fair, they aren't hurting. But if it was all about money they would be in the SEC right now...
on 1) I'm an aggie and can't stand that argument. We are going to go to a different conference just to show tu we are not followers? Who cares? Why do you want to distance yourself from your main rivals? If you want to get out of tu's shadow, then start beating them! 2) Recruiting - the main factor in recruiting is having a winning program. If A&M is getting pounded in the SEC, why are recruits going to go there? I think being in the SEC and not playing any Texas schools could hurt A&M. 3) Culture - who cares. 4) yes, we will get pounded in either conference right now, but why do you think you'll stop losing recruits to tu if you join the SEC? California has a bunch of top recruits like the state of Texas, so joining the pac 10 could help you gain some of the California recruits.
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to moestavern19 again. You can have the Cougar's spot and UH can move up to the Big 12.
According to ESPN's bottom line, it turns out these are all moot points. You are still going to have your aggie vs longhorn lovefest every year. Only this time it will be in the big 10, err......big 12-2, err.....that ten team conference with the UT television network and all those other schools getting scraps from fsn
