2006 (as a consultant): Shane Battier Steve Novak (#32) Lior Eliyahu (#44) 2007: Aaron Brooks (#26) Carl Landry (#31) Brad Newley (#54) 2008: Donte Greene (#28) Joey Dorsey (#33) Maarty Leunen (#54) Grizzlies' 2009 2nd rd. pick 2009: Jermaine Taylor (#32) Sergio Llull (#34) Chase Budinger (#44) Too many white players = too many wasted picks.
Why was Shane highlighted? Why was Chase highlighted? NO really????? Do you consider him a waste of a pick?
The best players at our range seem to be a few wings (George, Henry, Hayward, Babbitt) and maybe Cole Aldrich, but only Aldrich fills a current need. At least a couple of the wings are likely to be available but b/c there are so many of them it's in our interest to make a trade to a team that has designs on one of them in particular. I can imagine us drafting a player like Paul George and trading him to a team like Minnesota that covets a wing but wouldn't want to spend the #4 pick on him. Not clear what we'd get back in return, though I think a deal like Jordan Hill + Paul George + Cbud for Derrick Favors would be pretty fair and a win-win for both teams. I don't have a great handle on how good Favors is, but if he's on the lower side then we might be able to keep Cbud. Or Minn might want one of the Knicks picks instead of Cbud.
Although I will be glued to the TV like all of us, I know that 95% of ClutchFans, including me, will be brutally disappointed. The remainder will claim the player, players or lack of players acquired was exactly what they wanted. In the weeks and months that follow, the majority will don blinders and proclaim the wisdom of Morey as in the Gay debacle of 2006. Granted, Morey did a great job -- no, a magnificent job -- last year, but I still suffer from a lack of confidence. I pray Morey proves me wrong.
That's very interesting.. according to his track record, he's picked an international player every year. Anyone know of any international prospect that might be selected in this years draft? Speaking of which, what happened to Donatas Motiejunas? I haven't seen him on any mock drafts lately.
he didnt get a guarantee that he would be a top 10 pick so he withdrew from the draft. hes still young (19 i think), so im sure he will come back next year even better and end up being in the top 10.
Kahn is an idiot. RV6 said it best. He should have taken Brook Lopez, then the next year pick up Curry instead of Flynn or try to move up for Tyreke Evans. I don't blame them for the Rubio pick since they can keep his draft rights and make a trade for value whether he wanted to play there or not.
ummm...he's still on a NBA roster and I find it hard to say anyone drafted at 33 is a bust. He's not a team first player. He's got a good 4 or 5 teams he'll probably go through before he's out of the league.
Rubio staying over there a couple of years may help them as it keeps them drafting high so they may end up with two stars instead of one.
http://twitter.com/WojYahooNBA WojYahooNBA Sacramento has decided to draft Kentucky's DeMarcus Cousins with the 5th pick, multiple sources with direct knowledge of Kings plans tell Y!
I believe Morey will draft talent first, this being either fundamentals and/or raw abilities. But make no mistake he is still being predatory. He will give up any pick too raid another teams assets. I don't necessarily believe he wants youth and would rather have a veteran even if the contract is a bit much as long as he's getting value for the $$$ and it's a player he likes. Not saying he won't keep the draft pick, he might if he really likes the guy say if we move up to 4th. Draft pick values are up IMO because so many team are trying to shed money. Here is a opportunity for Morey to be predatory. I'm not just anxious to see who we get, but think I'm more anxious to see what kind magic Morey pulls out of his hat. I'm hoping for something big. In Morey We Trust.
