You're zoning in on the negatives. The positives in the story far outweigh them. Lucas called him a top 10 talent etc. etc. and the straight fact is that more and more teams are showing serious interest.

I am beginning to believe Sean Williams will go in the first 15. The silver lining, as one of more respected board members always says, is that pushes another quality player down one notch.

Meh, I will throw in my two cents.

My HOPE is we can trade up to grab an uber athlete with big upside like Thaddeus Young. I am not holding my breath. But it would rock.

I am not against drafting Sean Williams. His skillset is impressive. But I have doubts on the baggage. Maybe Lucus being in Houston would temper that. I would rather take a chance and gamble on him than.....

Not really a fan of Fazekas or McRoberts or Davis. In a FAST league they all look slow to me. I dont see how they benefit Yao.

At #26 if the Rockets can get a guy like Almond, then great. A wing player that can shoot with size would be handy.

As for trades, if the Rockets can make that Diogu trade then do it. Still very young and would be a quality PF for this team. To me, Ike is more than you can expect from anyone that would be available at #26. It would almost be like we got a seasoned lottery pick.

My prediction: We take Nick Fazekas... and the board collectively says "meh".

Everyone is saying the Rockets will take Fazekas. That means the Rockets won't draft him.

I would be estactic with Almond at 26 also and I agree with the poster that said Sean Williams reminds of Swift. I think I could live with Williams at 26. But if they trade up to get him, I probably end up in an asylum somewhere!!!!!

remembering who the GM is, and that he was specifically brought here to be the 'moneyball' guy and find players whose productivity will outstrip their draft location, it makes me believe that Morey is more inclined to go with a guy like Fazekas than a potential EG-II in SW. Many people are saying that Fazekas may even be the best shooter in this entire draft.

I look at it this way: if this team could thrive with guys like Jon Barry and Bobby Sura playing big roles, then a guy like Fazekas could certainly play a big part as well, as long as we have the Big Two of Yao and TMac to grab most of the attention.

That said, a lot of mocks don't have Nick in the 1st round, so it's also possible that we swing some kind of deal to land an early 2nd rounder, and pick Nick there, and still keep 26 to grab someone like Afflalo or Almond or Pruitt.

I have to say I haven't heard anything even remotely indicating that.

Based on Rocket's history, they are going to trade the pick for a veteran. That's the vib I am getting. But, who will it be? Definitely a PF, but which one?

This is what I saw from Draftexpress:

    "
...-Nick Fazekas has been one of the most impressive workout players around from what we’re told, shooting 75%+ from NBA 3-point range in virtually every city he’s visited. Some are wondering whether he’s not only the best shooting big man in this draft, but maybe the best shooter period. Considering he shot 57% from the field, 43% from 3-point range and 85% from the free throw line this season, that probably isn’t a fluke. If a team like New Jersey trades down in the first round, it could very well be to take him. He also seems to fit well in Los Angeles in the triangle offense, in Houston next to Yao, or even in Phoenix as a shot-maker. The only concern is his uncommonly high foot arches, which some worry may lead to injury problems down the road."

If memory serves, that is the first place I saw that particular analysis.

We get Yao to get Yi Jian Lian to force the issue by saying that he wont play for any team except the Houston Rockets.

His stock drops due to that and we pick him up at the 26 pick and we then trade everyone not named Mac, Battier, Yao, and Yi for chauncy (s&t), and ronron. We then sign Mcdyess, grant hill, oberto, and mopete.

We also use bob sura's expiring to get back Rafer :)

Rockets Acquire 54th Pick in NBA Draft

HOUSTON – Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey announced today that the Rockets have acquired a second-round selection (54th overall) from the Orlando Magic for cash considerations. The pick was originally obtained by the Magic from the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Rockets moved up two spots from their own second-round pick (56th overall), which was sent to the Milwaukee Bucks to acquire Mike James back on Feb. 24, 2005. Houston now owns the 26th and 54th selections in tonight’s NBA Draft presented by Sprite.

At 26, a chance to get a good NBA player is very small, trade it up or for a vet player is what we should do. I do not mind give up Head, or someone else.

I agree. That article does nothing to dissuade me that he is not likely to be another Eddie Griffin. Like Sean, Eddie has a lot of natural talent and is not a bad kid. But like Sean, Eddie had (has?) addiction/related issues which has prevented him from becoming a meaningful part of any NBA rotation. Eddie was mentored by John Lucas too. I think it's great how John reaches out to help troubled youth, but does anyone know how many youth he has mentored who overcame their problems to the point of making it in the NBA? If Sean Williams dropped to #26 and no one else I wanted was on board, I would still take him, but I am very leery of the Rockets targeting him.

I heard on the radio this morning that Sean Williams was caught with weed not once or twice, but TEN times. They mentioned how rare it is for an athlete to actually get kicked off the team. Guys from UConn actually stole computers and whatnot and only got suspended.

I have felt for awhile that some combination of Williams, Lucas or Williams' agent have deliberately held him out of workouts to drop into Houston's range. All the PF's in this range have baggage...When you've got two of the leagues' slowest centers...draft for speed.

I can live with Almond...he makes trading Head and Battier for a PF easier easier as it moves Wells into the starting lineup and TMac to SF.
