and even if they don't, it's ok. They'll learn eventually, and if they don't, that's ok too. There's nothing on this site that says "you must learn the past to be a true Rockets fan". People come here to express their passion on their terms. You of all people, with so much passion, should understand that. They don't have to have the same feelings about the Rockets to call themselves a Rockets fan. They don't have to know the history of the site to appreciate the fact that it exists. And they don't have to like Larry Smith to be someone who contributes to the site. And you don't have to call them out, because you're a true Rockets fan and you know it, and you should just accept them even if they only care about one or two players and be happy they aren't rooting for the Mavericks. When I first became a Rockets fan, I didn't know anything about Calvin Murphy or Moses Malone, or Elvin Hayes. I was all about Hakeem and Clyde coming into the NBA from Phi Slamma Jamma. BUt I learned the history over years. And my passion grew. I can only imagine if someone told me I had to like Bill Fitch or I wasn't a Rockets fan and that I was just an Olajuwon homer...I'd probably think they were crazy! Let them find their own reasons to love the Rockets, just like you were allowed to.
Hmmm p*rn?? hahahah thanks Clutch for giving us a place to express ourselves not only about our Rockets, but to read Hotballas sick articles and pass time @ the socalled workplace.
Calvin was both a player and announcer for the Rockets, he was there from the beginning. The Pocket Rocket. Calvin is a hall of famer. He came over with Rudy T when they were the San Diego Rockets. (1970) If the only thing that was accomplished was that LAYGO was wowed by Calvin's loyalty to the Rox for so many years. This is all worth it. The haters can continue to hate, thats what they do. Thanks Laygo. Laygo > all the haters
tinman is responding to the very valid and thoughtful points brought against him in VERSE. I'd love for you to sing to me, tinman, but it definitely appears that most of the board agrees that your thread was probably not a good idea...
i'd a leader not a follower. i know a few people who learned something or was happy to read or participate on this thread. so i shined the light, so someone could see. the others who choose to live in the darkness let them be.
Tinman getting dramatic and hyperbolic... NO WAY.... Preach on Tinman my Clutch brother... Preach on.... This is for you and the incredible 1986 Twin Towers Rox! <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/l97uj9Uvnvo"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/l97uj9Uvnvo" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/o0bqAp2MA9M"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/o0bqAp2MA9M" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> And always remember real Rockets Fans don't hate on Granville Waiters!
Larry Smith gets the hate Kenny Smith gets the hate how did we get to this state? Charles Barkley getting hate they must not be from this state or town or any where close around Who's next? Calvin Murphy Rudy T? don't you see? they dont know. the Rockets aren't a one man show it was a seed that grows into a Tree like Rollins lets keep it from fallin further down. we dont want to frown we want another championship crown for the team who's heroes were Mario, Sam, Ralph, Vernon, Clyde, Otis, Robert, Rudy, and THE DREAM
Come on man, you're simplifying it too much. I understand SOME of what Calvin means to Houston as a Rocket. I just admittedly don't know enough about the Rockets prior Phi Slamma Jamma. My searing moments as a Rockets fan were drafting Akeem, Ralph beating the Lakers, & Ralph getting into a fight during the '86 finals (fight/ejection/winning). Those are some of my few memories I can remember from that far back (damn you brain on drugs). I went outside to shoot hoops after the Ralph fight because I knew we were destined to lose. I was called back in as they were mounting their comeback. Names I can still recall: Sleepy Floyd, Robert Reed. (OT: I think that Barkley commercial where Wade is saying "it's amazing you fit in those tiny shorts", I think that's Barkley dunking on Sleepy Floyd.) I KNOW Calvin was a player, I didn't realize he went back to San Diego. I knew we've retired his number, he's in HOF, best free throw shooter, etc. I guess I was just minimalizing his impact because it was before my time & I don't understand it. (OT: I think Calvin should come back to announce. I love Bull, Drex, but they don't hold a candle to Calvin.)
i'm uniting us with this thread. one day we'll be voltron! Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale A tale of a fateful trip That started from this HOUSTON port Aboard this tiny ship. CLUTCH was a mighty sailing man, The DADAKOTA brave and sure. Five passengers set sail that day For a three hour tour...a three hour tour. The HATERS started getting rough, The tiny ship was tossed, If not for the courage of the fearless crew CLUTCHFANS would be lost...CLUTCHFANS would be lost. The ship's aground on the shore of this Uncharted desert isle, With CLUTCH, the DADAKOTA too, DR OF DUNK, and JEFF, NICE ROLLIN, the PRYUEN and TINMAN, Here on CLUTCH's Isle.
