...and one step removed from our starting lineup next year.

I was hoping for some good stuff from Boki. Maybe there was a very good reason he didn't get minutes last year.

you know, SJC. When you won't to stick out your tongue at someone's post, I think you should start using this picture, rather than the lame emoticons.

The summer leagues, especially in the early days, are dominated by players with great one-on-one games or big men who get points off hustle (rebounds, etc). Nachbar's game is not suitable to that.

He plays a complimentary game. He needs other players to drive and dish or to get out on the break with him. This isn't a guy who you clear the floor for and let him take his guy one-on-one.

IMO, that is one of the reasons he struggled. Obviously, more games will tell the tale, but I won't be looking for anything substantial from Boki until preseason at the earliest.

    excuses, excuses

that is exactly the excuse everyone used for Langhi...yet Langhi was a star in Summer Leagues from the moment he hit the floor.

btw: some of us played against Boki's brother. Grega most definitely has one on one moves. I cannot fathom Boki being unable to create his own shot against scrubs. He is Mr Drive, by what we saw in the Euroleague Final Fours games that were released on the net. I expect him to be able to catch and drive like Posey and Ginobili.

Right now, Boki seems incapable of attacking or shooting from a dribble, even just one dribble. Without that, what is he? He certainly isn't shooting like Bullard, Walt or Rice, or playing defense.

He just flat out has to improve. There are no excuses for that game last night, except possibly jitters...and that equally worries me. The guy grew up playing against Yugo pros. He started for Bennetton, who one the Euroleague champsionship, no? He can't be showing up with jitters against American scrubs.

He's a pro, and he needs to show up, now!

in a word boki is "soft"..he was getting pushed around by walton...and flopped a couple of times...nice handles but the his shot maybe not as good as advertised....i think he is more turkoglu than peja..

as for malick this guy is hungry...i was very impressed....his turnarund and jump hook looked smooth...nice form from the line...hustled like crazy...goes after every rebound and tries to block anything near him..if only eddie and mo could play with such passion...if collier could make the roster last year..i see no reason why malick cant take his spot this year....

kareem abdul jabbar played? i thought he wanted to coach.

the fakers also have leon smith. isnt he the guy the mavs drafted out of high school and than tried to kill himself? he had some decent #'s there.

tito maddox sucks ass. 6 turnovers and 0 assists. he makes "franchise" look like john stockton.

HP, you make some good points re Boki; however it would not surprise me if he goes off in one of these games. Walton is playing very good, but I do feel like Boki just needs minutes out there. It does not help that Nachbar was playing with scrubs like Maddox. Just like Ba, Boki will play much better if he played with better players or they had played more together. If he is indeed a very good shooter and that does come around then it will all work out.

Thanks DoD. I just do not see any reason why Ba should go to Europe and why Tmo is not a lock to make this roster.

the fact that boki isnt near as good as some of us had hoped(ie :starting job) is even more reason to either 1.hold on to posey to play small forward 2.trade cuttino/griffin for a small forward

Morris is gone. Rice will be gone. If Boki cant hold up we are screwed at small forward and power forward, and point guard since Steve wants to play sg. Geez. Im praying Badiane plays like Amare last year so he can grab rebounds since Taylor wont.

i wouldn't call a year of shinsplints "making the roster."

collier was a 1st round pick wrapped up in a rookie scale contract for three years...we were kinda forced into keeping him on IR.

Badiane has options. There is no shame in sending him back to Germany to make the A-League and play many minutes against pros, anymore than there was shame in Kirilenko and Ginobili being told to stay in Europe.

imo, Ewing has enough to do in training Eddie and Yao, not to mention teaching Cato some much needed inside moves. That's top priority. If we didn't already have a top backup center (a noteworthy blocker/rebounder) on our squad, and the dire need to develop Griffin, I'd say keep Badiane this year. Keeping him would still improve our practices, but I just question whether keeping him is the best thing for him.

    RIET,

I'm not saying Luke will be some All-Star or anything, but the guy makes some really good decisions in-game. I was talking to other Laker fans and they said he's been a big surprise for them. I saw him find open men when defenses came at him and make perfect passes through traffic in yesterday's game. I honestly think he's a good player. He may be one of the "sorta steals" of the draft. By that I mean, there were probably several teams above the Lakers that are going to wish they took him. He just seems like a player that does everything right - a bench player, but still a good player.

I don't disagree with you about Walton. However, it's going to be at least a couple of years before he becomes a solid contributor.

He's a heady player who's probably good for 15-20 minutes. You can't expect more than that.

However, when you compare that to Nachbar, who many of us hoped would eventually be a starter, it's very disappointing.

Nachbar played against European professionals, came here, practiced against NBA players, and yet can't outplay a 2nd round rookie with 0 experience.

    That's disappointing.

    IYO

If he goes off for 30 in his next game, I assume everyone will think he's the next coming of Jordan.

My point is that this is the summer league. This isn't the real deal. I'll reserve my judgement for training camp.

it isn't my opinion that your excuse was the identical excuse given Langhi. So, your langhi excuse for Nachbar did not apply to Langhi in this league against scrubs. Further, your Langhi excuse is not applying to Mike Dunleavy...who it should also apply to,

BobFinn* is going gaga over Dunleavy, and predicting a big break out year. boy, I should would like to see people saying that Day 1 about Nachbar....Jr and Welsch are dusting all comers, right now. Jr is averaging like 25ppg.

Look at the 1st rounders from last year...all of them are showing up as stars in this league, while Nachbar continues to disappoint.

and that's not just my opinion, either. Look at all the posts from last night.

well, that's a good excuse for why he played zero defense, I guess, and threw up airballs, dribbled into nothing...looked intimidated...etc.

    ;)

rockHEAD, do you always post your Now Playing, now...lol.
