I only saw the hightlights on SC, but Stevie's and Yao's dunk where awesome...

They finally won a game, so I think JVG's call out worked...

You can download the PRESS RELEASE (on www.rockets.com) before each game. Apparently, Cuttino had a hip strain, but he wants to the he wants to get better before he returns.

Wow, they're actually showing a game in which a Houston team won on ESPN Classic...They should probably change that channel's name to "The Houston classic heartbreaks channel"

what game did we play with the mavs on 4/13/96? the only great game i can think of with the mavs was that 156-147 double OT thriller we lost where we erased a 7 pt lead with 42 seconds left in regulation, only to have the mavs erase an 11 point lead with 63 seconds left in OT with kidd hitting everything he threw up. but i don't remember that happening at the end of the season so what happened?

and of course we lost game 7 to seattle in 93. dammit, why is houston the loser in so many great games.

POSTGAME QUOTES OCTOBER 14, 2003 - Rockets vs Kings

    http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/quotes031014.html

    ROCKETS COACH JEFF VAN GUNDY

    On his team's shooting:
"If a guy is missing he is killing himself so he is on a leash. If a guy is not killing himself and not missing the shots then he doesn’t need to be on a leash. At the same time we need to surround Yao (Ming) and Steve (Francis) with better shooting...23-42 in games decided by three points or less in the last four years. Last year we were 3-10. The reason why the Kings are so good is because they surround themselves with good shooting. For the most part I thought that our shots were good. Yao and Steve attach a lot of attention.”

    On Moochie Norris:
"I’ll tell you what Moochie played hard tonight. We played all out. I only want to win when we deserve to win.”

    YAO MING

    On the game:
"We worked very hard tonight especially on the defensive end. We will go back to Texas with a lot of confidence and a step in the right direction. Over the summer I had a lot more time to rest and a lot more time to think about basketball."

    JIM JACKSON

    On facing his former team:
"We had a wonderful time last year; it was very special to me. It was tough to come back not on the same team. I just wanted to thank the fans and my old teammates for all the support. I am happy to have a three-year contract; it was what I was looking for. This is a young, growing team and I think that Jeff (Van Gundy) is doing a real good job. It felt kind of weird coming back with a different team but you just have to move on."

    KINGS COACH RICK ADELMAN

    On the game:
"We just didn’t play very well, we didn’t shoot the ball very well at all. The whole night we shot it very poorly, but it was a good game for preseason. I thought we were impatient for the most part and we’ve got to go back to practice and work on it. We talked about rebounding and we outrebounded the heck out of them and we didn’t win, so I don’t know what that means. Maybe you should write a story that we don’t shoot the ball very well and rebounding doesn’t matter. We’re happy with the rebounding but we’ve got to convert it; we’ve got to do a better job."

    VLADE DIVAC

    On the game:
"(We lost because of) a couple of reasons. First, we shot the ball poorly. We had some pretty open shots. Usually, we’re gonna make those shots. But they didn’t fall in. But it was a good game. I like a game like this before the season starts. It was really competitive. Now, we’re going to go back to Houston and try to take them down."

    On rebounding:
"Having Gerald (Wallace), Darius (Songaila) and Tony Massenburg, they’ve been doing a great job rebounding. But we still have to do a better job."

    On Gerald Wallace's dunk:
"That was something that pushed us even further. After that (dunk) we made a pretty good run to get back in the game. When he shoots the ball well, we have a chance to get back in the game."

    TONY MASSENBURG

    On the Kings:
"It’s the preseason. We’re obviously not where we want to be. A lot of the minutes that we’ve been playing, we haven’t been playing together. So we haven’t really have that team chemistry yet. Obviously, they have a presence with Yao. They hold different matchups than anyone else in the league, since not everyone doesn’t have someone 7-6 in the middle. But we’ll get there. It’s still early."

On what the Kings will take from this game:
"I think you learn from every game. This game is one where we’re better off looking at on tape. Try to figure out what it is that we did wrong. Obviously, we missed a lot of shots. I think that was the biggest part of it. We just missed shots. We make our shots, we make our free throws, it could have been a different game."

    On Gerald Wallace's dunk:
"Awesome. Just awesome. That really got us going. If that couldn’t get you going, maybe you need to check your pulse. But that was an awesome dunk. It really got us back in the game from an emotional standpoint."

That is my alltime favorite Rockets loss. I remember getting pissed off about losing the game and about to change the channel when I decided to just watch the last few seconds and if I remember correctly Kenny hit a three and then on a fast break Sam I am hit an off balance trey from the left side. I also remember Kidd being on FIRE....

apparently not too well.:) of course i didn't either.

i googled it and apparently we won the game on 4/13/96 112-111 with our very own jim jackson scoring 33 and hakeem scoring 31. if i had to guess, this would be the game we led by about 24 at one point, only to blow the entire thing and let dallas lead by 1 with 0.4 seconds left. what happened then? we inbound to hakeem who catches it in the air and releases all in one motion for a little 10 foot swish as time expires with bill and calvin going crazy. it's the only mavs game i can think of that we won by 1 that would have the ingredients (huge comeback) to make it a classic. but even though we give up the huge comeback, at least we win.

i guess the oh so painful kidd on fire double OT loss was another time. i gotta watch this to see a little more of the dream in his prime.

funny, but i've always felt the same way. partly b/c it was just so damn entertaining. i mean 303 points combined, that's insane by today's standards. and partly b/c how great our comeback was only to be topped. and then a lot b/c of that first OT where we set the record for most combined points scored in an OT, 44! yeah, both teams scored 22 points in a 5 minute OT. usually nothing even happens for the first 3 minutes of an OT, and we damn near squeezed a whole quarter in there. i remember telling my mom (who usually didn't watch games but just happened to be in there that night) that the game was over when we got up by 7 with 1:41 left, and then she said yeah but we just came back from 7 with even less time. so then we score 4 more and are up 11 with 1:03 left and i'm like well it's definitely over now. there's not even a chance for them. and then kidd proceeded to go absolutely nuts like he always seems to against the rockets and the rest is history. but damn that was a fun game.

our 44 point OT and 33 combined 3 pointers with the sonics in that one playoff game are two records i don't think the rockets will be giving up anytime soon. of course losing both games does make them a little suckier.

Do you honesty think that JVG "thinks" that everything is "okay now" with the team?

After going 1-4 in the preseason?
