On the radio after the game they said that it was Courtney Kirkland that made both the Posey foul call and the Miller free throw violation. Can anyone confirm if this was true or not?

One last point (hopefully) and I'm off to bed.

Let's say it's a judgement call like you're saying. Ok, then it's a judgment call just like a charge, a block, a ticky tack foul, or an over-the-back is in the final seconds of a close game. What do the refs do in those situations? Swallow their whistles on judgement calls unless the violation absolutely gives a team a clear advantage.

I don't think Dre leaning over the line like he did qualifies. "Let the players decide the game on the court," don't they say?

Pretty simple. Lane violations are called whether or not more free throws are coming. Surely you know this.

Houston Chronicle and Clutch are both reporting Jim Clark called the free throw violation. My mistake on saying that Courtney Kirkland called the Posey foul and the violation.

If the guys are making their shots then Yao won't get many touches but still 10 points without Kandi and Brand seems a bit less. Was it because of physical defense or was he not getting the ball because the others were shooting well?

Yao was getting doubled pretty aggressively. I tip my hat to Rooks.

Yao didn't play well today. He's in foul trouble. Plus he's getting double teamed constantly. That's why I think we need more shooters on the team instead of non-shooters like Posey who could never take advantage of open shots. If only Rice's a few years younger and had better legs to play defense, Posey would never see the floor.

i won't argue the refs got us the win with that call, but moomoo don't act like we had 3 extra players out there the whole game the way a team like the lakers gets. at one point the clips held the free throw advantage 30-12 (not that i thought it was uneven really, but they weren't being nice to us until that very last call).

and yes, yao had foul trouble early and the clips went through periods where they doubled immediately on yao. in the 3rd for a while they stopped, and yao dropped 8 in a row on them. then they came with lighter doubles sometimes in the 4th (on both yao and taylor) and we made good passes and got wide open shots out of it. overall the offense was fine tonight.

I don't care about the plane or the rain in Spain, as long as the Rockets don't drive me insane.

We didn't play good enough tonite, but it's a really good win to build up our confidence, especially after a frustrating losing streak.

Great play by Taylor and Rice, if they can step up when our BIG 3 don't play well. We can be a really good team!

The fact that the Rockets even needed a lane violation to force overtime to beat the Clippers is proof at how inconsistent they are. Three overall underwhelming victories (two of those squeakers against lotto teams) aren't enough to convince me that this is a playoff team...

Yao was terrible in this game. Can't he just dunk the
ball when he is 1 feet from the basket?

At least you're right about the character part. This win definitely shows our bad character.

God was on the Rockets' side last night.

    moomoo and clippy,

I always thought that the rule was about "stepping across" the line. But after I read the rule quoted by posters here, I'd have to say that "the plane" means the plane, not the line.

I understand your point about people's hands and arms breaking the plane. But I think the intent of the rule is to prevent tall players from leaning (thereby shortening the free throw distance) or athletic players from jumping towards the basket (landing after the ball hits the rim or goes through the hoop). Michael Jordan in his prime could actually dunk from the free throw line. Jumping towards the basket would also give the shooter the advantage of getting the rebound after a miss.

So come to think of it, the rule actually makes sense. The refs do not call lane violation if the crossing of the plane is just incidental follow through. But if the player clearly leans over the line, that's a violation. I guess the rule should have stated something like "any body part other than the hands and arms . . . "

BTW, the enforcement of this rule this season is mainly due to Shaq's ft shooting style, and he is very pissed by this.

Also, the call was not a bad one BY THE BOOK, but is bad in terms of its timing. Same with the Posey foul call. Miller had no chance of putting up a shot. The contact did not have any effect on the play. They usually don't call this kind of foul at a time like that.

Not sure if this was posted yet, but I do not have time to read all the posts....

This was in the chronicle today

Miller, who had been called for a lane violation earlier in the game, clearly did not land over the line before his free throw reached the net. But he seemed to be caught by the NBA's rule 10, section I-D: "The free throw shooter may not cross the plane of the free throw line until the ball touches the basket ring (or) the backboard, or the free throw ends."

I thought the rule was put in so that the shooter doesn't have momentum to get the offensive rebound after they know they are going to miss the shot. Thats why they don't let you lean over the line, because it gives you an advantage to get the ball.

For most of the Game our defence was very poor especially both of our guards. I believe that this is the reason that the Clipps have been beating us. Mobley was a surprise, as his defence is considered reasonable but he was guarding a player much bigger and stronger, who could shoot at least as good as him! Also the defence on Parks was disgusting, he had so many open shots!

Hey Doc...whatever happened with you and that guy gram! who doesn't come around anymore? Weren't you guys suppose to meet up in late Feb. to duke it out? LOL. Mr. gram! loved to talk trash to anyone that slightly disagreed with him and was always..."Oh, I'm goin break your leg." or "Oh, don't talk like that to me son." Like he was some old man that we should respect when he was only like 28 or something...Jesus what a loser.
