heyparty-Then no, we can't be the grease on draft day itself. But, that won't stop us from making agreements that go down on August 1, being grease for other deals. The keyword is go down. If Orlando knows they've got CWebb in the bag, it won't matter to them if they clear cap space now or later. My use of the Bender example was to show that players under contract can be used in agreement for trades that don't work with the 15% rule that will go down on August 1, operating on the principle that the team will go under the cap. Also, there's likely going to be more than just Hakeem and picks involved. We could always do the rest of the players involved plus the picks now, and then in a later wink wink, nudge nudge, slip Hakeem away for some other spare parts of the deal. (Draft Day: What in the world? Why did we just trade #13+#18, Cuttino Mobley and Kenny Thomas for Chris Whitney, Etan Thomas+#1? August 1: Oh, I see, Hakeem Olajuwon S/T to Washington for Richard Hamilton and Jahidi White ) TOAST-we won't be under the cap on draft day. That's a near certainty. Bullard and Hakeem, since they won't be renounced, count for close to 30 million. Other than Cato and/or Walt to the Bulls or Clippers, nearly nothing will go down on draft day, aside from pick swapping. Time will not be of the essence. The big picture won't be affected if a deal goes down on draft day, or on August 1. Also worth noting, if we trade Cato or Walt for nothing and/or picks, we will have trade exceptions to grease things on draft day, and of course, we still have the Bryce Drew trade exception to be greasy with. Interesting enough, Washington does too. ------------------ "I think alot of people find Cato's game to be very offensive." -aelliott, comparing the offensive skills of Kelvin Cato and Michael Olowokandi [This message has been edited by NIKEstrad (edited June 12, 2001).]
4th fact for Joe Joe I read that as saying all the salary issues are atomic as well. We cannot start the trade above the cap, and half-way through say we are below it. Here is Coon's first line in explaining restriction on trades. My reading of that is we could be under the cap only after the trade, thus allowing us to grease subsequent s/t's. at issue is can we s/t dream AND claim cap space in the same trade. And it is the same trade, forget the 2 day period. [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited June 12, 2001).]
Alrighty, I'm with you now. I thought getting rid of 10-11 million in salary cap would do it, but I see what you guys are saying. It's alright. Just means we get to wait a bit more. ------------------ Founding Father of the Refs Suck Club
did I miss something? why does Orlando have CWebb in the bag? They have an opportunity for Davis, who's both cheaper and better. And besides, CWebb is coming to Houston( btw, I'll still be saying this after CWebb is s&td to another team :0)) ------------------ girl you looks good won't you mock that draft up?! NIKE: I agree with the Bender/Davis trade. Toronto was under the cap, so it was a simple trade with no risk that it was over a month from Draft Day to consummation. Just because that went down does not mean a Doc Rocket menage a trois between Jordan, Dream and Webber on top of a Hill as any chance of easing complications in everyone trusting each other enough to make picks for the other one. ------------------------ This is crazy talk. Doc's rumors are for Aug 1st. Forget the draft picks. We aren't moving up in the draft via greasing 3-ways or trading Hakeem. We aren't moving up unless someone really wants Cato or Dream (Bender/Davis style) straight via a 2-way. Everything else is way too complicated for Draft Day, imso. A 1st time ever 3-way Blockbuster involving Superstars and Super high picks has NEVER happened on draft day.
heyparty-Since it can't take place till August 1 anyway, then what's the difference between not renouncing Hakeem, and signing him to a 6 mill contract, and renouncing Hakeem, falling below the cap, and signing him to a 6 mill contract, still below the cap. *for sign and trade*. I don't think there is any, other than Dream keeping Bird Rights in the first one. Once we sign Hakeem to an amount that would put us below the cap, we're below the cap, whether it's for sign and trade or not. In any trade, you can always take back 15%+100K, or take back whatever puts you up to the salary limit. If what heypartner thinks about the single atomic deal, and us not being under the cap during the deal, since we'd be dealing with large salaries, I don't think it'd be terribly difficult to break the trade in two if need be, with one part being us trading Hakeem, and then being able to be officially under the cap, and doing the rest as a separate deal. First sentence of #61 of the FAQ- Teams under the salary cap may make trades as they please, as long as they don't end up more than $100,000 above the salary cap following a trade. ------------------ "I think alot of people find Cato's game to be very offensive." -aelliott, comparing the offensive skills of Kelvin Cato and Michael Olowokandi
It certainly won't happen w/ the potential for Dream to become sensitive or nostalgic. Fuggghedabout Doc Rocket's mumbo. The Rockets have three picks in the draft. They have at a minimum $16 Million dollars around 07/15 or 08/01. They have a Chicago pin b/c of wittle ollll Bryce Drew. They have Steve Francis. They have Cuttino Mobley. They might be able to bring back Dream Olajuwon. If that isn't enough for a Rockets' fan to be excited, I'm not quite sure what would be. ------------------ girl you looks good won't you mock that draft up?!

I'm with Achebe on this one. Toni Davis has made one too many comments that place him in Orlando next year. If it wasn't true, he'd be screwed big time, and stuck in Toronto. He's probably a better fit for the Magic anyway. I do hope and trust Walt's popularity on the team won't cost us a decent trade. ------------------
Give me about an hour or two and I'll post... don't know all of that but I think I can shed some light on some of it. I've had to play catch-up on so many things since I've been back so sorry for the delay. ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
Clutch, give me about an hour to put more RAM in the server to handle everyone hitting F5 incessantly while waiting on your post. I can only hope Doc Rocket never gives a warning about an upcoming post. I can just image the thread title: "I Will Post Trade News tonight at 3ii42trois D.M. est...etc" That will break the server.
Clutch, I'm not rushing you or anything, but it's been over 2 hours now and I just broke the F5 key (You owe me a new keyboard heypartner). I bet it's a tad bit late because you are packing all the quality you are allowed to share into it. I can't wait... Thanks Clutch, it's your city and we're all just living in it. ------------------ "You couldn't have stuck a pin up his @#! with a jackhammer. today, ever thought of making good money harassing software developers w/ the same patronizing tone you just took w/ Clutch? Achebe: No negative patronization intended, I hope it didn't come off that way. I stand behind my statement as being sincere. In fact, I made it my sig. ------------------ It's Clutch's city and we're all just living in it... [This message has been edited by today (edited June 12, 2001).]

Good idea Clutch, as much as we all want every piece of available info, we don't want it if will hurt the Rockets Organization. We appreciate you guys "in the know" being discrete. ------------------ It's Clutch's City and we're all just living in it...
sorry today, my joke probably came across harsh. I've just been setup too many times w/ compliments and requests within the same breath. It worked the first 400 times, but after I while I realized that that good feeling only lasted a few all nighters. ------------------ When this guy started smoking 40 years ago, people had no idea it was bad for you.
