    For comparison:

Out of curiosity, what does a bear have to do with the Rockets? If anything, I would have expected a monkey for one of the first animals in space, but a bear?

Ummmm ... I think some of you need to unwind a little bit.

We have plenty of kids at Rockets games. They love Clutch. So do many of the non-kids. We get more fan mail for Clutch than for anything else we do. He's one of the more popular mascots in the league, and he does a damn fine job.

If he doesn't float your particular boat, then ignore him and let the ones who get a kick out of him enjoy that part of the show.

For the person upstream who said that the Rockets need to realize that not all their fans are kids -- you're missing the point.

The rule isn't that everything in the arena needs to appeal to one particular type of person. It's that there should be something in the arena to appeal to every type of person.

The red does look much brighter than any of the other pics I've seen of the uni's.

I hope that's how they look for real.

Tim, the only problem that I can see is that Clutch is awesome but not outside of the cartoon logo era. The Bear just doesn't look right.

So I was right in saying that a bear was chosen because it is the most universally fan-friendly mascot to have according to the team's research?

I remember reading that in the paper back in '95.

I personally think Clutch is very funny, especially Air Clutch. I still wonder about the choice of a bear, however. But I guess a giant teddy bear is a little more familiar than, say, Orbit was. (the old green Astros mascot)

For what it's worth, I think Turbo is a nice member of the mascot 'family' because he appeals to a more mature audience.

    Is he coming back?

I agree with Tim. Clutch is the best mascot in the league IMO. I'm not a kid but everytime i watch him do his routines he makes me laugh. Anyone want to have that scary mascot Dallas has???? That half man half basketball guy.....yikes! I'll take CLutch...thank you.

Clutch is overall a very good mascot. He is pretty funny, especially when he is getting on other teams' fans. My only complaint would be that he is too standard and doesn't really represent the team. When he was first introduced, I didn't acknowledge that he could be the team's mascot but just thought that he was some random bear. He's grown on me and I think others fans as well. Also, as mentioned, his ears need to be colored red.

I think Mark Cuban is the funniest mascot in the league.

The classic clutch moment came when Air Clutch dropped a turd out of his shorts on the floor a few years ago. It only happened once and never happened again. I'm guessing he got a memo after that one.

What's the matter with a bear as a mascot? Would you prefer an astronaut? I remember people complaining a lot on this board in years past, but never this much. Besides the fact that a bear is just as good as any other mascot given our team name, the guy inside the bear is freaking great. If you don't like Clutch's routines at the game you are either not going, lying, or you think you are really cool and therefore can't like a bear as a mascot, which is dumb

    TURBO! TURBO! TURBO! TURBO! TURBO!

Didn't we have Twin Turbo's a few years back?

I remember seeing a Blue Turbo come out...then out of no where I see the old Red and Gold Turbo.

Maybe it was a one time gimmick thing :|

the reason clutch looks better in the old uni is because vertical stripes make fat people look thinner.

Anybody that has the audacity to call the uniforms ugly should be forced to wear those butt ugly, crooked pin-striped, grinning dildo POS uniforms every single day to an inner city basketball court where he will promptly get their asses kicked repeatedly for looking like a dork...

Besides, it's a freaking bear with a 55 inch waist! A $3000 Armani suit would look bad on Clutch the Bear!

The idea of Clutch is perfect, as always. We have Clutch who is the cute one so he appeals to females, kids, the softer side of us & all that bs, and we have Turbo who is the cool one that all the guys prefer. My only complaint is how Clutch looks this year. There is no emphasized black beltline on his uniform so it looks like he's in a dress. And I never liked the blue ears. They were barely passing when Clutch was in a blue uniform, but now that he's in a red uniform, they look infectious. Black ears, yellow ears, something other than blue. I dig the shoes, though.
