Nothing to do now but just hope he doesn't have any further setbacks... he is who he is. This year was done as it is... next year can be determined next year.

In the end, somebody has to be held accountable... and since they're not going to get rid of BOB after the turnaround that has been seen on the field, the only logical conclusion is to get rid of Smith (even though he doesn't unilaterally make the call on the draft picks).

pssh... you can still follow that sinking ship in Tennessee. Why would you presume the franchise course would be vastly different if they were here?

Yes, we would now have one SB appearance... but be no closer to actually winning a SB than the Texans are (or have been).

True. But it may be time to bring in a GM that will give more insight on who the Texans draft.

The whole affair doesn't pass the smell test as the Texans did try to trade the pick but were unable to get a good enough offer. Now if they truly believed that Clowney was really a "one in a generation player", they never would have tried to trade away the pick. So there was doubts about him from the start. And without a surefire QB available, I think they just went ahead and hoped for the best. To me, that poor senior season was a red flag for sure but the narrative there became about his "attitude" (thanks to his coach) and not his physical condition. He's just never seemed right from the start.

Blame should fall on the Texans for their decision making and not Clowney's injury. Blowing the No. 1 pick while bad, doesn't cripple them because they still have JJ. However, blowing the last two drafts is inexcusable and action needs to be taken before Smith and Co make that three blown drafts next year. The Texans are 2nd in their division because of sheer dumb luck: Jacksonville is still trying to pull their heads out of their collective a**es while the Titans are a putrid cesspool that shows no sign of improving anytime soon. The Texans won't enjoy this luxury forever.

    By all means. :)

They'll bring in a new GM (BOB selects him), but I don't expect him to be a draft guy.... BOB is going to maintain his strong input on personnel, just like Belicheck does/has.

The new GM can, however, fix the cap mess and can talk McNair out of extending guys prior to them coming back from injuries.

Ugh.... This changes things, I really thought he could come back and play, but we were being told it was inflammation and a little pain in his knee from the meniscus tear, but now microfracture surgery is needed? Not a good track record with athletes after this surgery.

Texans really need to nail this upcoming draft and they really need to find a REAL franchise QB. Stop wasting picks already.

At the same time, a lot of teams likely didn't do comprehensive due diligence on Clowney because there was no way he'd be available to them. For example, I doubt the Seahawks brought him in for workouts or looked at his detailed medical history or anything because the only way he'd be available at the bottom of the first round is if he was seriously messed up.

That's not to say Clowney wasn't the right pick - but one argument people made for him is that he was the "safe" pick (compared to a QB, for example). People ignored that he had his own share of red flags throughout his career, from work-ethic to injuries to concern that his priority was just money.

What really makes this pick unfortunate is the number of players in the 1st round this year having outstanding seasons, evening ignoring the fact that they are rookies.

Indy did give up a 1st round pick for bust Richardson... won't hurt them as much as this one, but bad things do happen to them.

There's also fans there that still wish they had hung on to Peyton (despite Luck's early success)... that they'd probably still be closer to a SB with him, and he'd be setting/breaking all these records in a Colts uniform instead of a Broncos one. Luck's going to have to win it all to erase that current sentiment.

Texans front office always seem to make the dumbest decisions, they're clowns.

I love my team, despise the organizations' front office, they're conservative dunces. Remedial football folks negatively affecting my team year after year, smh.

Uncle Bob should go get Dr. Rudy Wells:

He has the technology to rebuild Clowney. He'll be stronger, faster- better than before.

lol thats nothing, the Colts took a hit with a draft pick but it hasn't adversely hurt them in no way. Still perennial playoff team and AFC ruler.

Peyton was a smart football move because of who was in the draft and the longterm picture. Peyton is approx a 3-5 year window. Luck, a 15 year window, no brainer if you're looking for sustained success.
