LOL - maybe not the best source but at least one that shows the hypocrisy. Let me guess, you didn't watch the video? DD
After watching the coverage for the last week I agree there is some sexism in the coverage and criticism of Palin. That said I don't think the many in the Republican party are in much of a position to complain. From the original article: [rquoter]Many conservatives, who spent a generation ridiculing the politics of victimhood and group identity, are now zealously invoking both in the Twin Cities. [/rquoter]
I really don't see what's wrong with pointing out that running for VP while having a 5 month old downs baby is a concern. This feminist nonsense has really gotten overdone in this country IMO. She IS a mother, and it IS her job to take care of her children, and that job IS more important than anything else. There is nothing sexist about it. Family > *. Especially when you've got a 5 month old baby with Down's syndrome. I think it's somewhat ludicrous to say she can't run for VP because of it, but at the same time don't tell me taking care of her baby shouldn't be priority #1. Of all people who should understand this, the Republican party, so-called champions of family values, should.
Call me crazy if you want, but I actually typically go about 3.5 years or so between my devoted watchings of The Daily Show, just starting up again. It may be slightly biased towards democrats/liberals, but it does call out everyone on hypocrisy. So instead of having to read through 60+ hours of internet crap to find out Dick Morris is an idiot, I just have to watch Jon Stewart. The clip was disturbing and hilarious.
McCain campaign co-chair, Meg Whitman: http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/09/mccains_national_cochair_media.php "I actually think it's completely fair for the media to vet Sarah Palin," Whitman said, adding that it was "the right thing to do" for the media to dig into the background of someone who is "running for the highest office in the land." Asked directly whether there had been any media sexism, she replied: "I wouldn't say there really has."
OMG ... CNBC anchors on a roll. Donny just said "women want to be her, and men want to mate with her" ... after a couple of groans and facepalms he backtracked quickly saying "mate on a primal sense, meeting of the minds, ...". And as if it wasn't enough, the female anchor invoked the MILF word (referred to an "acronym that begins with M and ends with F").
On the flipside, the delegates at the convention had buttons like "We've got the hottest VP" or "We've got a babe for VP" and things of that sort.
Sorry, but raising those children is the job of both parents. I'm not concerned about Palin running for office while having kids. Heck, some of my ancestors came to Texas in wagons and on horseback, farmed and ranched while cooking, sewing, countless other things and, yes, raising their kids. She would manage. My problem with Palin? She's a liar and a hypocrite.
I agree with this post in its entirety. I also think Obama should resign from his campaign because his first job is to be the father of his children. Nancy Pelosi should resign as Speaker to ensure she is a good mother. All politicians, democrats and republicans alike, should resign from their positions if they have young children and we should amend the Constitution to require that candidates have no children at home when they run and be subjected to forced vasectomies and tubal ligation.
Well Said Just....I mean we are talking about a 5 month old? Both her and the husband should be prioritizing that child. At least that is how I see it. Children come before ANYTHING else. DD
It's never ok. Those delegates should be arrested and forced to listen to Obama like Jon Favreau who refines the rheteroic and writes a speech, while Obama partially writes, and than it will be o.k. to say Obama "writes" his own speeches while defining this issue of sexism is not to be used in any regard...In addition, "hottest" is now a term exclusively to sex...Or Biden has possibly plagerized his speeches for that matter, or the Boston Herald critiquing Sarah's hair,...or how most President candidates may weigh on their own speeches, and how this differentiates from Obama weighing in on his speech, therefore with the labelization that Obama "writes his own speeches"...It's hilarious....
Awesome...another example of "whoops, I got hit, trying to hit" attack style from the left...I hope they keep it up. It's transparent, and freaking hilarious!...
I don't think you read me correctly. I said I think it's ludicrous for anyone to say she shouldn't run for VP because she's a mother. Personally I think she'll do just fine. But she does have a 5 month old baby with Down's syndrome, and I think it's equally ridiculous to insinuate that her duties toward that child are not more important than a presidential campaign.
Have you been hanging out with TJ? I am glad you like the far right pick of Palin. Let's see how her policies and record stand up under real scrutiny over the next 9 weeks. DD
