I want folks to remember back when virtually everyone shat on Morey for this pick and signing him this year to now look at the Dwight Howard situation and think again about their short sited stance. I want to remind people that they actually advocated even CUTING Capela over "not in the NBA anymore" Jeff Adrien. Capela might be a bust in a couple years but it's so drastically important that the Rockets do NOT sacrifice the future. James Harden will be around for awhile and the Rockets will need talent around him after the Dwight Howard years. Capela might or might not pan out, but this is very well one of the few talents Morey will get his hands on to develop for the future when Dwight and Ariza, Terry, etc. aren't around or aren't playing at a high level anymore. So yes I agree with you. The Rockets have a lot to be excited about for the future. Their mgmt are doing their due diligence to build for sustained success.
Capela is our Hassan Whiteside. Whiteside couldn't even get camp invites, and now he is making those Pillars or Basketball Intellectuality who shunned him look champions of the Peter Principle. Similarly, so many were and still are so quick to write off Capela as a D-League project for the next 2 years. DOFs want Dorsey over Capela. Dorsey. Mr. "Guaranteed 2 loose ball fouls per minute", Mr. "Makes whoever he is guarding PER-wise basically a much better version of Anthony Davis". All I'm saying is Dorsey needs to be packaged and gone after the trade deadline, and Capela needs not return to RGV.
not crazy about capela being called up to sit on the bench. would rather him continue to develop in the rio.
I agree. He may develop into a good player at some point, but at the moment he just isn't ready for the NBA.
Minutes are fine too, but he needs a lot of fundamental work and he needs more muscle. The shots he misses are because he is trying to dunk thru people like he does in the D-League. He gets away with it down there.
For someone his size and athleticism that's what he's supposed to do. He's timing is off and he gotta calm down his nerves.
In most of the D-League highlights you'll see some horrible or non-existent defense. People are going to body-up and attempt to defend him in the NBA.
As I said, Clint is lost at this level right now. He'll shuttle back and forth between RGV and the big club this year and get nothing but garbage minutes with the Rockets. If he's still with us next year, he'll stay up with Houston and contribute a bit. Year after that? The investment should pay off, if Morey hasn't traded him before then.
I actually think he looked a little bit better than the last time in the Nba and is starting to understand his role. Defense and rebounding When he gains his confidence he will get serviceable very quickly while he continues to develop.
He gets so damn nervous. If you watch his RGV games he doesn't look nearly this uncoordinated. he airballed another layup tonight. He needs minutes, but we aren't in a situation for on the job training.
I really do think it is more nerves than rawness-- and he is raw as they come. I seriously think he just craps his pants out there. Glad Keith always brings a couple of extra pairs.
