The guy was playing injured for us from the beginning. I am guessing he is all healed up and his true potential is beginning to come out. I like that he comes from Euro league and emphasizes team play and will fit in well with OUR Euros.
Yeah, raw numbers from the D-League tell us nothing as no one ever plays defense or even boxes out. You can see in some of Capela's videos that he's untouched when grabbing offensive rebounds, even with three defenders around him, and putting it back in. That doesn't happen in the NBA. He's not creating his own offense and doesn't box out either. But his athleticism, length, and shot blocking ability are on display and he's only 20.
Tim Ohlbrecht wasn't a 20 year old rookie either i can't believe the negativity in here sometimes about our players
Not fair to have it both ways though: -'Go tear it up in the D-League to prove you got the stuff' -Goes and tears it up in the D-League -'Well it's the D-League so it doesn't matter' Notice when Canaan & D-Mo got 20+ minutes because we were forced to, and then they magically start developing before our very eyes and playing really well? Funny how that happens...
Exactly. No snarky remarks about stats when someone tries to compare his production to another guys production with 10+ more minutes of playing time. And I am pretty sure Tim could ever do something like this: Spoiler <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/QqHTjXtjv0M" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Canaan and D Mo wouldn't be this advanced if they didn't have stints down there. It isn't so much the standard, it is getting more time to work on the overall game plan and the different set the team want to play. Not all rookies blossom straight away like some people think here, they think you can just switch it on whenever you get more minutes, unfortunately that isn't how it happens
No one here is saying his D-League numbers make him the next Hakeem. We're just saying his D-League numbers are ridiculous. DMo averaged 21 pts, 10 reb, and .5 blocks per 36. Jones averaged 22 pts, 10.5 reb, and 1.5 blcks. Capela is averaging 23 pts, 18.4 reb (!), and 8 blocks (!) per 36. He isn't murdering his inferior competition. He is murdering, bringing back to life, and then murdering the competition a second time.
Clint did nab 3 rebounds 1 assist and went to the free throw line for 4 shots in 6 minutes his first outing though I admit, he looked raw and lost thats still quite the production on the NBA level in 6 minutes of play
Depends on what is your expectation will be. If your current expectation for him to the Dwight's backup, then NO, he is not even close at this point. But if you are expecting him to be the backup of Black and his competitor is Dorsey, well then, any college walkin with 6"10 should have a decent chance. Hence the call up. It's not about how well he played down there, its about how poor the other 2 played up here.
Because I am praising a European big man that is Ohlbrecht does not mean I am negative about Capela. All I am saying he is going through the same practice Ohlbrecht has been. Of course he is more high profile. It takes a lot of time down the road lol. I am not sensing logic in your response.
He was not fully healthy. They put him on a minutes restriction. That's why he's only getting 15 minutes a night.
Hack-a-Dorsey has something to do with it too I suspect. Clint is 12-15, 80% FT. Being forced into hack a Dorsey because we are already at the furthest end of our active bench has to have influenced the call up. Wait wait wait... Are there Dorsey Only Fans? (I kid I kid.) And I know, there are lies, damned lies, and statistics. Take with a grain of salt. Some of it is worth noting though.
