Confused. He's already signed to a contract and counts towards the cap, regardless if he makes a concession. I don't care how much $ Tilman has to spend as it doesn't come from my pocket. I only care how well the team manages the cap as that impacts the product on the floor. So to that point, the Rockets still have the Oladipo contract so that's a sunk cost. As such, I don't even count that. Sorta like free money if they can use it in a package deal. Oladipo is, what, 10$mil? If Capela is $20mil, he's really only a net addition of $10mil. At that rate, he's a bargin. But more importantly, it's clear a backup big is the biggest need as that reduces the burden on existing staff that, today, is valiantly extending themselves beyond their optimal zones. Capela would free them up to be their best selves without being a negative (ahem, Landale). Jeff Green, Jabari, and Sengun all playing extra minutes at 5 distracts them from doing their best work. Never mind that Capela could be a positive against bigger lineups. 20mm seems like an absolute zero-brain decision. I'd do it twice on Sunday.
I wonder what are Atlanta's goals? We know they just hired a really expensive coach last year. Currently, the roster does not seem to be working out. The Murray acquisition was a bust, and they just haven't been able to recapture the success they had in the bubble. I wonder if something like this would be considered. I was reading rumors on Spurs interests in Murray (don't know the source, so may be garbage), but if that were the case, maybe we can work out a three team deal where it clears Atlanta's cap space next year from two large salaries, and lets them semi-rebuild the team with Trae, while also acquiring a couple of FRPs.
As far as I've seen they're still trying to win now. I believe Shams was the one who reported recently Atl is gauging interests with Murray. maybe they want a less ball dominant guard next to Trae
It would make sense to have a less ball dominant guard next to Trae that's an excellent defender. That's going to be a tough deal to find. I think Atlanta is going to be swimming in mediocrity for a while if they are truly still trying to compete.
Tildo has a documented history of dumping assets to avoid paying luxury tax. So player salary is something we have to keep in mind. It costs you nothing to pay CC $10 million or $20 million or $200 million; but it will cost the team if Tildo decides to once again use assets to offload salary so he can save some money.
Clint is ok, but he is aging, and never been great, if we had to have him, ok, but would prefer picking up Biyombo for free. DD
OO and CC are redundant. They are pretty much the same kind of players. OO is locked up on a cheaper contract for the next 4 years. There's really no reason for the Hawks to keep Capela. True, they aren't going to give CC away for free. Whatever the Rockets are willing to part isn't going to outbid other teams, I think. Besides, Capela is in his prime and can start on a lot of teams. It's just a one year rental. I don't think we'd want to pay a starter's salary for a backup.
I will say this...ATL gave up 3 picks and a swap...their future for Murray. For them to get rid of Murray and CC, I see it taking more than the 5 salary filler guys and those picks. I'm definitely on board with bringing CC into the fold for Tate.
3 1st's & 2 swaps seems the going rate for a team changing star. Are guys like Murray and Donovan that kind of player?
