There's no promise Roy O will be healthy come next year. The Giants can still give them a run for their money on pitching. I would still take Philly though.

Cliff Lee may not have left as much if any money on the table to join the phillies, in fact his new deal might be the best deal offered by the three teams. Reports now indicate his deal being either 5 yrs - 115million or 5 yrs -120million (AAV = 24mil per) and reaching a max total of 6 years 140+ million with the last year vesting option.

Ironically i was rooting for the Yankies to sign Lee to a giant 7 year contract, because i despise them and of the opinion that Lee will have a rapid and zito-like decline in a couple years (i give him 2 or 3 good/great years then mediocre-ville) Unfortunately i never imagined nor wanted him to join the phillies and pitching in the National league against my Giants, with the best rotation since Maddux, glavine, Smoltz and avery/neagle/milwood behind him. Crazy...
Im happy the yanks are crushed and jilted, but scared of the Phils.

LOL @ Yankees and Rangers (but especially at the Yankees).

Phillies rotation is devastating to say the least but they still need to replace Werth and their lineup is more left-handed heavy than the Red Sox. Guess they figure they are going to win a lot of 1-0 and 2-1 games this upcoming season.

That rotation is insanely good. You can't even pray for a rainout, because if you miss their big two, they come back with Oswalt or Hamels. Halladay and Lee, and pray for injury? Barring a major injury or a precipitous fall off by Lee (not impossible), they are going to be prohibitive favorites to win it all.

Stay classy Yankee fans. This is what happens when you spit on an opposing pitchers wife, and possible future signee. Lulz!

Screw that. The Giants owned Cliff Lee in the playoffs this year, and took down the Phillies with ease. The Phillies' bats were completely shut down while Cody and Huff just crushed it.

What happens? Someone offers more money?

Maybe they should take a clue from Houston fans on how to behave.

    Signed,

the wives of David Carr and Warren Moon

I know! I'm so glad Lee defended his wife's honor against those evil Yankee fans and turned down another $50 million.

    oh well, his loss

I get your point, but please stop repeating the idea that he turned down money. He accepted a contract of higher AAV than the one any other team was offering that also allows him to go be a free agent again after 5 years and sign for another good money deal at least, or he can get an option year with the Phillies if he falls apart.

His worst case scenario apparently is 6 years $140 million which would end up being $6 million less than the Yankees contract offer. His best case scenario is 5 years, $120 million and then the ability to go sign ANOTHER free agent deal for multiple years instead of taking one year at $20 million.

Not according to the Daily News --

That got the Phillies' attention, although their offer is believed to be five years and $100 million, and, according to the source, Lee would be leaving "a lot of money" on the table - possibly as much as $40-50 million.

Lee was mulling offers from both the Yankees and Rangers since late last week, weighing the pros and cons of a move from Texas to New York. The Yankees offered a seven-year deal in excess of $160 million, while Texas is believed to have guaranteed six years.

What's funny is that we hear complaining all the time about athletes taking or making too much money or their goals being about nothing but it. Now all I have been reading about is how much money Lee is leaving on the table. Why doesn't the media applaud him for doing what he wants instead of getting the most $$$?

    apparently not!

It takes a certain type of attitude to play in New York and obviously Lee doesn't have it. When it comes right down to it, Lee just doesn't have the cojones to hang with the big boys. It's cool! We all move on

    :p ;)

As a Yankees fan, I have no idea how we didn't get Lee or Crawford. UNBELIEVABLE!!!

We also should have gone after Matsui to be our DH again. That was a huge mistake letting Hideki go.
