That's the thing, if the Rockets were willing to offer another million, he would probably sign. They are being cheapskates. ------------------ Protrolls.com! Keep the ???? alive! The ZRBucks!

Isn't Gatling still counting against their cap from last year? ------------------ Who's your buddy? Who's your pal? I am, aren't I?
Missed that one...unless they've renounced him. I thought they did renounce Jim Jackson & Chuckie Brown (could be wrong). I am just totally perplexed by where this 5.5m cap shortfall is for the Cavs. Any ideas? Can they renounce Gattling and than add a mil to the MCE? ------------------ Raef to Rocks in '01-'02!
I am up in the Youngstown area (compared Huntsville to downtown) and Cleveland had a lot of talent in the beginning of the year, but was horrible towards the end for several reasons. 3 of their 5 best players were hurt the majority of the year (Zyd, Bimbo & Wesley). Gatling is shoot happy showboat with no defense and the skinniest legs this side of the Mississippi. Mihm looked good at times but never seemed to get into the flow of their system. His main problem is he is not real quick, so it hurts him on offense and defense. Traylor was their center for most of the second half of the year, when Mihm could have been. Their coach had no control of the team or the game. I can see that they would have interest in Hakeem. They are very close to excelling in the east. When healthy, they have the ability to lead the east. A lineup of: Hakeem Traylor Murray Miller Coles with Langdon, Person, Mihm, Zyd (when healthy), Doleac, etc... will win a lot of games in the east. IMO, Mihm is the most tradeable bait they would offer. He didn't "takeover" the job when offered, but he still has skills, nice shot out to 15', and can rebound and block shots. He had 5 blocks against us when the Rox came to town (We won in a very lively game). Mihm needs us more, but we could use Mihm. Cleveland has to do something with all the centers they have, so I could see this going down. They only have 1 real PF in Traylor, and he did very well in relief for them at center, so he is versatile. Zyd is the ? since he is not expected to come back from his injury until Nov (this is what I heard at the end of the season). ------------------
No way. Hakeem will not finish his career on one of the worst teams in the league who can't avg 5000 a game. ------------------
If Mihm worked out so well for Cleveland I doubt they would have drafted Diop. And Lucas saying that Mihm is better suited as a 4 seems more like "the new coach's positive spin". But hell, I'd rather have a raw Mihm to work with than nothing....plus the Texas connection is always good PR for the Rox ------------------
I only saw Mihm once last year and he lit up the Rockets for, as I remember, 20-25 points. What does that mean? It further bespeaks our dilemma. That being said, he would be an improvement over Cato/Collier if we could dump Cato's contract somehow. He's got some skills and decent upside potential.
I look at the contract list for the Cavs and god help me I can't see a solid starting 5. It is the east though. ------------------ -jbond77 "truth be told, my car is dead, and I'm having am radio withdrawl symptoms"
Dream for Andre Miller.... Um wait they wouldn't do it. ------------------ "We need to FOCASS".... Akeem Olajuwon
We will not trade for Ilgauskas, he's an injury risk and his contract pays him $52 million over the next four years. The Rockets won't take on a salary that big for an injury prone center. ------------------
The story is being reported here in Columbus that the offer is 5.5 mil for 2 years (I would gues 5.5 mil/year but the way they say it it is 5.5 mil for 2 years) from the Cavs and the Cavs are the "Frontruneer for Hakeem" (sorry no link only on the station I'm listening too. I can't see Dream going there. Clevelnd is a horrible b-ball town and are not close to making the playoffs, much less a championship. My guess is Hakeem needs leverage to work a S&T someplace he wants to go (Indiana, NY, etc) and the Cavs are the pawn they can use to get someone to up the offer and to let the Rockets realize he could walk away for nothing if they don't co-operate on a S&T.
John Lucas said this about the Cavs pursuing Hakeem: "We played together in Houston. I have interest because he could come in here and help our young guys. He'd be a valuable piece to our team if we could get that done." http://www.clutchcity.net/news.cfm?NewsID=746 ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
Cleveland is not as bad as everybody is saying. If Houston had lost 3 of its top six to injury we would look pretty bad, too. Andre Miller is a star. Bimbo Coles is a very good point guard. Lamond Murray can score lights out. Add in Traylor and Hakeem to round out the starting five. Now add Person, Doleac, Harpring & Trajon in relief and that is a pretty good team, especially in the east. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Rudyball (edited July 23, 2001).]
Wow, interest from the Cleveland side, but we're yet to hear from Fegan or Dream on Cleveland. Hakeem could possibly be the #1 option on offense, as Miller is a pass first type of PG. When healthy, Cleveland's a good team. But, they're probably the most boring team in the league to watch. Cleveland has the roster to use a "Dump it to the post" offense, as they have the old-school PG (Miller), and a load of 1-dimensional shooters (Person, Murray, Langdon), and also guys that can take over that same role in the future (Ziggy, Diop, Traylor). Cleveland has a trade exception, I think ~1 mill. Could help Clutch-any particular reason for Doleac over Mihm? I'd think Mihm would be a little more helpful PR-wise, and IMO the better player. ------------------ "I always thought Hakeem was the better offensive player and DRob the better defender." Spurever Shaq would probably agree.
I dont know what cap fillers would be needed to get the S&T done, but I would gladly take Mihm for Dream at this point ------------------
ZRB, I saw your other defense post too, and I agree. Why won't the Rockets offer him a million more? Is it similar to any haggling situation where you offer something ludicrously low, knowing that no matter what the first offer is you will have to raise it? That way they can eventually raise it up, and look like they are willing to compromise and then put pressure on Dream and his agent to comprimise also? Is there a chance that is what's going on? ------------------
Doleac was just traded, so he will have a trade restriction of 60 days or Aug 27. that would put a squeeze on us regarding the other FA's. ------------------
I would love to see Mihm in a Rockets uniform. I think he can play a decent 5 but better suited for the PF spot. ------------------
