dude did run for president in the last thirty years so to just say because his name has been known in the last thirty years is a bit unfair. of course he's known, he's a black guy that ran for president. he's an activist. roger is a baseball player who shows up to yankee stadium in the middle of game to announce he's coming back. that's media whoring.

I didn't say his name has been known. I said he's been grandstanding for thirty years. And he has. That's not unfair; it's accurate--and I'm not even counting his run for president. I knew who he was (and had a general displeasure for his act) *before* he ran (good grief, that was 30 or 34 years ago, wasn't it?).

He's a media w****. There are plenty of "activists" who motivate large quantities of people without setting up a big press conference with lots of camaras all around the latest big tragedy or gross social injustice.

Maybe so, but he'll never be in "the Reverend Jesse"'s league.

try 20 and before that he was a civil rights activist, I doubt you probably know anything he did thirty years ago. sounds like you're the one grandstanding. get your facts straight

Yep--I knew it was either '84 or '88, but I had a brain fart and was thinking of the '80s as 30 years ago. Hey--I'm getting old.

I'm quite aware. Like I said, I knew who he was (and disliked his act) well before his presidential candidacy.

Sorry, but there are no camaras and columnists gathered around me. I haven't called any attention to myself whatsoever, and I'm not pretending to be the next Dr. King.

Dr. King was a hero for the ages. The "reverend Jesse" is a moron that needs to shut his pie-hole.

look, you can disagree with his politics all you want, but that's how activist work, the CALL ATTENTION to what they deem a problem. clemens calls attention to himself for the sake of promoting himself.

Sure he did. That doesn't mean he's half the man Dr. King was.

the point is you're acting like his sole purpose was bring attention to jesse jackson which may or may not be true recently, but in the past there was a purpose to the attention he caused.

    BINGO!!!!

You know what, I was young in the 70s and not paying attention to national stuff. So I'm going to take your word on this. Perhaps he was a good and honorable public servant at some point earlier in his career. I'm so disgusted with his act in the '90s and '00s that I've utterly written him off.

So, let me restate my earlier comparison: The "Reverend" Jesse Jackson has set up camara opportunities and nationally televised soapboxes for himself for the better part of 18 years. I only wish he were disappearing. The two (Roger and Jesse) don't even compare.

I'm probably younger than you, it bothers me that people's opinion's are so jaded because they only have one side of the story. I maybe wrong but I'm going to guess you probably get your jesse jackson info from the conservative talk radio heads of the world.

I hate talk radio, and I hate talking heads. I also hate spoon-fed opinions--both left and right. (I listen to jazz, rock, easy rock, and sports radio.) I arrived at my opinion over Jesse actually watching his press conferences and listening to his words after different events. If I were to detail his actions that have earned my contempt for him, it would further derail this thread. I'll just say that even if you're younger than me, if you've read up more on his pre-80s history than I then I'll take your word for it.

Jesse Jackson is an AZZ. Still waiting on that Duke LaCrosse apology from him.

    Back on topic.

Clemens is going to fry if he lies...he has a full day to think about it.

I hope for his sake, he uses it, and then recants...and just admits he used.

That way he will save a lot of his time and money (Hardin can go away too).

I hope so too, then this stuff can die down in the next few months and Clemens can just shut up and disappear.

Max, for arguments sake, what if he has a change of heart and comes clean?

    Would he still face ramifications?

And if he has lied under oath, what can Clemens do going into tomorrow?

    Thanks,

    DD

To me it boils down to what Hardin is telling him to do. Is he:

    A. Telling him to continue to fight it?

    or

    B. Telling him to cut and run.

Option A means Hardin keeps getting paid, Option B means that Hardin will have lost some face.

They have really backed themselves into a very tight corner.
