Wouldn't that be the very definition of a publicity stunt?

Even if it is, again I ask, what is the downside?

Crane gets a little goose at the gates and gives some money to charity. Clemens probably goes 5 innings at most, maybe starts 2 games tops (probably only 1) and then retires an Astro and works for the team.

The only downside here is if you hate Clemens and don't want to see him where your team's uniform. That's a personal issue though and doesn't make it a stupid decision.

Indeed. Disgraceful. Maybe Crane should have bought the Skeeters instead of the Astros.

And Roger Clemens is addicted to public adulation more than anyone I can think of. Must be like drugs to him.

This is a move that Uncle Drayton would have lurved. Crane is supposed to be the anti-Drayton.

Baseball doesn't need Roger Clemens doing it any favors. Also, it sounds like Crane has committed to the idea of gate proceeds going to charity. Speaking of the charity deal to build baseball fields, I wouldn't be too surprised if one of the 12 billboards in left field doesn't end up with Roger's face on it.

Yeah, I'm not really a fan of Clemens, don't care if anyone thinks I'm hating and just ready to see this guy go away.

So anything Drayton would be for Crane should be against?

Does this mean Crane will never sign a free agent? He'll never approve a trade?

Can't fault Crane at all for trying to bump attendance, if for one or two games. The team incredibly sucks....it's the one thing they are great at. Unfortunately people don't come to see suck-age. But they may come to see Clemens.

If the Astros were in the middle of a Pennant race, then sure it'd be disgraceful and stupid. But they're not, so who cares.

I still can't believe people are defending Clemens? This guy is the biggest, most arrogant attention w**** in all of sports.

Bring him up. Who cares about it being a publicity stunt? I would go all out and sign Bonds too.

Actually, bring back bagwell and biggio as well. I want entertainment
