the biggest jerk in sports is relative. for some folks, it's whoever's in the news most recently (Dwightmare). for others, it's whoever offended them the most (Bonds, Rocket, etc.) meh.

Why?? I do not want to see Clemensin an Astros uniform again and will lose much respect for Luhnow for going along with this. Idrather we just keep being ****ty the rest of the year than be ****ty AND a circus.
Why do you feel this way? It would be fun having Clemens out there for a few games. Very little else about this miserable season has been fun.
The Astros are fu$&king boring, even though I love them. I think Clemens is a grade A douche but I'd throw him out there simply for the entertainment value.
He demanded back in the '93, literally under threat of never appearing at or donating money to the UT baseball program again, that "his" number 21 be retired at UT. It took 15 more years for Greg Swindell to get the recognition he deserved (the school 're-retired' the number), which pissed off a bunch of donors, former players and coaches. He was an infinitely, massively, ludicrously better pitcher than Clemens as a Horn. That's just one story. Dude's a prick.

I feel like it's a sideshow that further debases the Astros. What fun is there in clinging on to the performance-enhancing ghost of Roger Celemens? To me this is like taking a hefty dump on the turd that is the Astros. This feels something Sideshow Drayton would shuck to the Astros sheeple. I was hoping for more from the new front office. The Rockets might as well bring back Yao Ming next year so people can have fun watching him out on an NBA court again. Who cares about the development of the players on the team? Let's just be sure to put asses in the seats by dredging up the past. Hakeem looks to be in great shape somebody give his number to Morey!
no argument. I was just commenting on the folks arguing about who is the "biggest jerk in sports". one could build quite the hall of infamy, for sure.
The owner has every right to sign Clemens. How many games have you been to this season? We're starting to look like the Florida Marlins on TV. I can only imagine how much money Crane and his investors are losing this season, so if it puts fans in the stands, Crane should do it. I know I would, and so would y'all.
I'm not questioning the owner's right to make, what is in my mind, stupid decisions. Uncle Drayton did it for years. He pays the checks he makes the decisions. That doesnt mean his decisions are without fault *cough* Carlos Lee contract *cough*. I'm not sure why you're questioning my game attendance as if it has any bearing on the matter, but to answer your question I've been to 4 games this year and will be at a 5th game on August 29th. Crane and his investors may very well be losing money, but it isn't as if they purchased the team site unseen. They had to have done quite a bit of research on their investment and knew it was a loser initially. I have no sympathy for them trying to turn a quick buck in the short term at the expense of the integrity of the franchise. The investors stand to make plenty of money from their new TV deal, so let's not worry about their pocketbooks too much.
I guess I need an explanation on why signing him and donating gate revenues to charity is a "stupid decision." Is there a stud prospect pitcher who won't get to start because of him being on the team? It's September anyway so no one would lose a roster spot. I don't really see any downside.
Are you talking about the Astros or Skeeters? I couldn't care less about the Skeeters and what they do. I haven't read anything from Crane stating he'd sign Clemens much less donate gate sales to charity. Maybe you've read otherwise?
From Crane: "The only thing we don't want to do is make it a publicity stunt. If we did it, I want to try and take it and turn it into a positive, which would be Roger's doing it for the good of baseball. The extra proceeds on the game might go to the (Astros') community charity deal to build (baseball) fields, do something positive out of it.
