I've never seen him play... but from Youtube clips, he looks to be agile and athletic, and he looks like he can shoot. Looking at clips of him on the Kings, he looked like somebody who was going to be a decent player. What happened?
I'm surprised people on this board didn't know Delfino can play he's been at least solid for 4-5 years now. Casspi is not on the same level as the Argentinian. just look at his shoulders when he takes a jump shot and then look at Casspi's release. it'll tell all you need to know about who's better at basketball.
We needed some ppl to sign vet minimum to fill up the roster. To me, he's better than Royce White, that is all that matters.
Let's just see how he fits on our team before passing judgements. I believe he will have a little moe freedom to get back to being that energy guy off thr bench like he was when he first got into the league. Maybe some teams thought he could handle more responsibility and found out he could not. Well this year, he wont be asked to carry much load. Play with energy and knock down some open 3s when they come your way. He can probably play better in small ball lineups than Delfino.
For the vet min., the only thing I expect is for him to shoot the three ball in the very limited minutes he will likely receive. Low risk - high reward type move, in the sense he probably can't play below his contract value but maybe he goes back to how well he played his first (?) year. Just my 2cents.
We just need this dude's baby fat to hit the wide open 3's that he will see all day, all night. i don't care if he can run.
there was talk of morey trying to get him mid-season, before he went out with the appendix surgery. i remember this kid lighting up budinger his rookie year, so he does have some talent. it seems worth a minimum contract to see if he can regain his confidence.
weren't there people saying the same things about delfino last season? I trust morey and I don't see casspi having that significant of a role on this team. Casspi should be happy to get the little amount of time and try his best to be productive in order to earn more pt.
It was fresh in my mind how good Delfino was because he was lighting up team USA during the Olympics. I was also surprised so many people here thought he sucked... because the Olympics just finished when the Rockets got Delfino, and he was impressive.
It all depends on what Morey sees and what he will say about the signing. My guess is he will not see a lot of time on the court when get Morrow / Brewer or another guard / wing.
I have to disagree with you. Casspi just needed to find the perfect team for him and it wasn't Sacramento nor Cleveland, the city is an important reason for the player to sign with a particular team,I think Casspi had a good time in Sacramento, there is fine Jewish community there and people actually loved him and appreciated him,the weather was good for him too, let's not forget Israel is a hot country in the Middle East. Cleveland was kinda disappointing for him, very cold, grey and depressing city,I remember he once said that in the winter you could barely see the sun,it effects certain people which came from different places, which aren't used to this kind of weather. In Casspi's first 2 years there was one thing you could notice everytime he stepped foot on the court, and it was enthusiasm, when he comes off the bench he tries to bring as much spirit as he can,and it certainly helps his teammates to do the best they can as well. We all know that Casspi isn't the ultimate player,he's not even close to be one,but he is a decent player to help the team and get the crowd involved as well, all he needs (and I already said it before) is to achieve confidence from his environment, which includes his coach, his teammates and of course the fans,I think this franchise is exactly what Casspi was looking for and I believe he will play well here in Houston.
These are EXACTLY the kind of arguments that boils my blood. and it's exactly what I meant when I said Casspi's persona is his ( and Houston's) biggest problem. lets start. first: when he was selected by the Kings I vividly remember how everyone in Israel were saying how he found the perfect situation the play. a young developing team that would give playing time to build his game. and when he was traded to the Cavs I again remember everyone celebrating how he found the perfect place. a young team that has no SF. and finally now as he signed with the Rockets it's once again "the perfect situation" for casspi. a winning team. Secondly, The Cavs disappointed him? really? you should ask people there what they thought of him. in the lack of jewish community? grayish whether? are you kidding me? who the hell is Omri Casspi? how is Cleveland compares to Yavne where he was born? It's true even I know the city's nickname "the mistake by the lake", but still. it's a legitimate city in the USA. Casspi can't play in cold places? that is so sad. what will he do in away games for the rockets if it happens to be snowing in toronto/chicago/NY etc? this is crap
this is the biggest misconception about Casspi I heard from NBA fans. Casspi in his years in Israel was a below average shooter from the outside. he got into the NBA based on his athleticism which was impressive for a jewish white guy. in the months prior to the start of his first season he said he really worked hard on his shot and entered the league gunning. He was so good from outside that american NBA fans just assumed he's a euro import who's a great shooter, like so many of them in the past. But sadly Casspi streak has ended, he ran out of luck and his shooting really declined with every passing season.
The things you write are crap, filling the people here with nonsense. Sacramento was actually a good city for him,his regression there had nothing to do with the city and I never claimed it because I had never heard him saying something bad about Sacramento, but I did heard him saying bad things about Cleveland, and not just him, there are other NBA players who said it before like for example I remember Joakim Noah bashing that city, plus their crowd is hostile and it's well known thing around the league. The whole situation there was bad for Casspi, not just the city, but also the coach for example,Casspi didn't play a lot in the previous season, but when he did he was decent, scored his points, grabbed his rebounds, and played mediocre defense, but yet, coach Scott insisted to reduce his minutes, and I can't blame him either, but that was the situation. Of course you can't compare two seasons to one road game, weather can affect your mood,it's a well known thing, you might won't feel it but others might will,it's an inner feeling, some feel it some don't. I have a feeling that Casspi will perform here what he'll be asked to perform, and that's all,you just need to stop be so pessimistic.
Hey guys. This is my 2nd post in this forum. The first one was a long post regarding Casspi and it can be found here: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=8094617&postcount=392 I have to comment about some of what the OP says, because some of what he is saying is wrong in my opinion. This is an exaggeration... I believe you can't be objective and make exaggerated comments at the same time. Yet you claim you came here to correct the deceptions that might have been caused by the "COFs". Seems to me you're just making a different kind of deception. I agree that Casspi is not good at dribbling. But I am not sure that is going to be very important considering the role that is designated to him. There can be many reasons for that. Not playing much, lack of confidence, bad shot selection (which can be caused from a pressure to prove yourself, for example) are possible reasons. His 3pt percentage might be very good in the right environment. The moment you wrote that, I knew you're just a hater. Dude was asked by his coaches in Sacramento to gain a lot of weight during the off-season after his rookie year. They thought it is important for him, since the NBA is much more physical than European basketball. He didn't just gain "fat", he worked his ass off at the gym. Regarding how good his defense his, I don't think it is as bad as you claim it is. He can sometime play really good defense. But he definitely still need to work on that part of his play. The bold part, however, is where I have to disagree with you completely. Casspi is always giving his best when he plays. He tries really hard and he cares a lot. He gets really mad at himself when he makes a mistake on defense. I've seen it happen a lot. Thinking that "he doesnt really feel like it" just seem twisted to me. How can you know that? seem like a bit too specific of a psychological analysis based on just watching him play on TV. I've seen many of his games and I could not make that kind of analysis. He might be thinking he is better than he is, I don't know, but I think every player at this level must think that so he can push forward. I really don't know how you managed to reach your conclusions regarding his self-awareness and taking responsibility. Even if this is true, why is it bad? He barely got minutes in Cleveland, so when he does get them its bad that he is trying? aren't you trying a bit too hard to bash him? Seriously? Another crazy exaggeration. He will most likely try his best at defense and work hard to improve it. Yes, he might occasionally make mistakes. He his not as terrible in defense as portrayed. So you believed the media when they wanted to hype things up and say it is the perfect situation for him? that was just media being media. Doesn't mean it was true. We don't know if Houston is the perfect situation for him either, we will have to wait and see.
