I'm an absolute slob and ashamed of it. drapg, does your OCD make you want to clean other people's places and do you want to hang out at my apartment? Seriously, being really clean is better than being really sloppy. As I type this, my feet are resting on a pile of socks under my desk because I always take them off at night while surfing the web. When my knees start hitting the desk from the extra elevation, that's when I know it's laundry time.
I normally start washing clothes Thurs night...and finish them by Sat night.. keep the house picked up thruout the week... Clean different parts of the house every weekend, so that every room in the house gets thoroughly cleaned once a month. Dishes get done evey night. I used to be a lot sloppier when I was single...but now that I have a house...I try to keep it at least respectable looking and cleanup anything that smells or that might attract rodents/roaches ASAP. It helps that we are down to one child under the age of 18...the 21 yr old isnt home enough to make many messes.
I usually try to clean up our apartment every Saturday or Sunday when I get bored. By "cleaning" I mean swiffering the kitchen and bathroom floors, dusting, taking out the trash, and throwing away random crap laying around the house. I vacuum maybe every 3-4 weeks. Our apartment is really small and I don't even bother to go in my roommates room...He is a slob, but he will at least help take out the trash if I mention it.
Does it bother you that you can't have friends come over because you want things to be so neat? I find it a bit disturbing. Sure, it's cool to be neat... I wish I was a bit better. BUT ... I wouldn't want it getting in the way of my social life. On the other hand, I might have felt the same emotion you are talking about. I have a friend who is REALLY messy and really does not notice. I don't mind mess too much, it's dirty that I don't like. This guy eats and uses my computer or playstation at the same time (grease), he never takes his shoes off even if we have just had a football match on a muddy field. He goes onto carpets like this. When he's eating he drops stuff on the floor ALL the time and doesn't pick it up. I think you would end up shooting him - it really drives me nuts when he comes round. specially now that I'm not single and like keeping things relatively clean for my loved one.
We have a lady come every wed for the big stuff and then we normally will just keep it clean throughout the week. Were both pretty neat so it works out nice. I think my GF goes overboard though becuase she feels the need to pick up before the maid gets there. On a side note if you have pets I have found the BEST vacuum cleaner, THE DYSON picks up everything and it gets all the hair out of the carpet. I got it about a week ago after my boss bought one, he paid $500 (for the animal turbo model) and I found it on line for $299
Dude, you said you liked the French Maid outfit. Were you lying?? Go have some Jesus Juice, for chrissakes!
We clean whenever: 1. Company is coming over 2. We make lattes 3. It smells bad I am neat but not clean. I pile things up and hide them. I could live in a townhouse that looks neat but is actually home to numerous forms of toxic mold....oh wait, I did live like that.
Everyday. Try and keep everything looking as neat and organized as possible. I don't want to look at a pile of crap, so if I see it, I'll clean it up. Who likes looking at dirty, unorganized stuff? Clean it up.
