Lol. I like how you posted this and then almost every other post bashed Fisher. Honestly, the Lakers should ask Fisher to pay THEM 5 mill a year for the right to hang onto their coattails and rack up more championship rings. The only way he scores at all is when teams are so surprised to see him not sucking that he makes it all the way into the paint untouched. Kind of like how teams react to Chuck Hayes trying to post them up. It's just stunned disbelief to the point that nobody even tries to block his shot; they let the rim do that for them.
Darko - $20 Million for 4 years....... I want to spit just thinking about his contract. I would rather overpay fisher because at least he can hit a jumpshot under pressure
I don't much like Fisher, but it's going to be fun watching Steve Blake try to run plays with Gasol, Odom, Artest, and Bryant out there. He's going to be overwhelmed quickly. Remember how he looked out there against us? Add a angry scowling Kobe to that equation and see what happens. Also, god forbid Jackson can't make it through the season due to his health. Bryant is an awesome player, but he is no leader.
I'm just saying, Adelman shouldn't be dismissing the value of making big shots since his teams usually doesn't have any big shotmakers that have helped him reach championship level
Actually, his best shot at winning a ring was taken away by the refs. Also, plenty of big shots were made by his teams so I'm guessing you have no idea what you are talking about.
The Lakers organization show absolutely zero loyalty towards their players. They're the anti-thesis to the Celtics organization, who treat their aging and ex-players extremely well.
You're kidding right? Sigh... I'm not even going to argue with you. Yes, you are correct. Adelman NEVER had anyone who could make big shots. Shakes head
Hey its your opinion you can hold on to it as tight as you'd like to make sense of things that didn't go your way
If he's a BACKUP PG, thats fair money. He's the 2nd most replaceable rotation starter they have after Vujacic. They might even get by making Vujacic the starter over Fisher. Not saying Fisher DIDNT lend them ANYTHING, but he's not exactly Chris Paul or Rajon Rondo. Phil Jackson, Gregg Popovich, and Rudy T have won 85% of the past 20 titles. Does that mean no other coach knows anything about players making "big shots"?
You are underestimating how good Blake is at adapting. He is very good at sharing the backcourt with talented, scoring SGs. He's very intelligent, fiercely competitive and will have no problem being on the floor with those guys. What he lacks is the ability to body-up some of the bigger PGs the way Fisher did. But Fisher has gotten so slow now he can't even guard most PGs. He's lucky Kobe was up to the task against Rondo and Westbrook. Fisher is one of the most fortunate players ever because he had Kobe taking up the slack line he leaves out there. During the regular season, Blake is at least equal to Fisher. Both guys are below average starters.
I hate the Lakers but who hits most of the clutch shots in the playoffs for the Lakers. No not Kobe Fisher. He is clutch and not the bear.
I gave Fisher all the props for hitting the big shots. But his finals series, 2-10 from beyond the arc, was one of the biggest reasons Lakers couldn't spread the floor. Artest was awful, but Fisher was even worse shooting % wise. You don't quite need big shots if you can have double digits lead in 4th quarter. Fisher is backup material, and a 37 yr old non-star doesn't get 5M often. Harper in his final 2years, got 2M as well.
That was due to RA having to guard Kobe on the other side and he was getting exhausted. When Fisher had to guard Westbrook, he's like a stick.
He doesn't have to be a Rondo or a Paul or anyone on this Lakers team. The beauty of the triangle and Phil/Kobe's system allows Fisher to be a starter. You gotta take several things into consideration. Just like Artest, Fisher's true value is judged on the playoffs. Based on his play has he earned it for next year? Absolutely. Plus Fisher has been with the franchise for most of the part 14 years, gotta take respect/loyalty into consideration (I believe he took a paycut to leave Utah to sign with the Lakers). Also Phil and Kobe have acknowledged the championship would've been much harder to win the last couple of years without him so the front office will take their word.
