I'm looking to make a Cd of artists covering Classical Rock music, stuff like TooL's cover of Zep's No Quarter and Radiohead's cover of Floyd's Wish You Were Here. Any good ones that you know of?
STP - dancing days (zeppelin) Sublime - scarlet begonias (grateful dead) Black Crowes w/ Jimmy Page - What is and what should never be (zep) there's a bunch, but i'm drawing blanks right now. i'll post more when they hit me.
Dweezil and Ozzy's cover of "Staying Alive" by the Bee Gee's is cool. REM does a ton of covers during their sound checks: Paint it Black, California Dreaming, etc. The Sex Pistols cover of "I'm Not Your Stepping Stone" by the Monkees was pretty cool. Pearl Jam does a great cover of "Roadhouse Blues" by the Doors. They also do some Ramones and Beatles covers. Frank Zappa did some serious damage to many old Beatles tunes and others. If you can find his version of "Strawberry Fields Forever" you will never hear the song the same again. He played the melodies note for note but um, Zappafied the lyrics a little. He also does a great big band version of "Stairway to Heaven."
Whoa - what Radiohead album is that cover on? I MUST have that album! Oh and keeping with the spirit of this thread - "War Pigs" by Faith No More was a cover that I always thought was pretty good.
Foo Fighters-"Baker Street" Recently heard a reggae version (very good) of the Cat Stevens song "It's a Wide World" Anybody know if this is Jimmy Cliff doing the song?
Limp Bizkit - Behind Blue Eyes Kid Rock - Feel Like Making Love What? You don't want this mix to suck? Oh, okay... The Who's version of Young Man's Blues on Live at Leeds is definitive. I'm not a DMB fan, but how can you not like All Along the Watchtower? Sleater-Kinney - Fortunate Son
Ben Folds Five- Video Killed the Radio Star (??) REM- Toys In the Attic (Aerosmith) Faith No More- War Pigs (Black Sabbath) Blues Brothers- Soul Man (Sam and Dave) Weezer- You Really Got Me (The Kinks/Van Halen) Rivers shreds that solo.
