How about first quarter tonight, when the Rockets were down 5 after 6 minutes: "the Rockets really need to put the Kings away" I've never heard anyone talk about putting a team away in the first quarter particularly when trailing at the time.
bill: "and here are the Panda Express league leading blah blah blah." clyde: "HEH HEH HEH HEH" bill: "why is that funny clyde??" clyde: "well, i like chinese food, so..."
He mentioned something about Rafer being a very good finisher. My jaw dropped. Finishing is Rafer's number 1 weakness.
That was the second one I thought of.....the first? Bill Worell :"[put anything here]" Clyde: "[same as above, just different words]" Pugs
maybe so but i wish the rockets had that sort of mentally of letting weaker teams know who's boss while its not a quote but the constant chuckling by clyde cracks me up to him laughing at his own jokes like he is so pleased with himself
Yeah, it was the "Panda Express Firecracker Chicken Top Five someting or other" that Bill was announcing, and Clyde just busted out laughing. That was during last nights game. I love Clyde, but I miss Calvin too.
Ha, thanks. In context Clyde was hilarious. EGo banks in a three and they had just made fun of Cameron Payne for banking in a three. So Clyde says that EGo is a great shooter and he'll give him the benefit of the doubt... because "I'm a homer". I'm not used to Clyde making me laugh but he was legit funny right there.
Clyde Drexler has such a goofy personality. This is in sharp contrast to his playing days -- serious demeanor who would not hesitate to put any one on a poster with an epic dunk.
Bullard: “Portis was suspended for punching Mirotic in the face. You can’t go punching your own teammate in the face.” Drexler: “if that happened when we played, you wouldn’t have any players left.” Now, I understand the officials let more contact go back in the day, but it’s news to me that guys routinely punched their teammates in the face in the 80s.
I love when he says “night in and night out” like nobody has ever heard that phrase. Consummate professional.
Thank you for bumping up this thread. There is some entertaining material here. Drexler is the modern day Yogi Berra with some of the goofy stuff he says. When I have more time I will go back and read all six pages.
And if you think some of the things he says are funny you ought to see him dance. I remember the year he as on Dancing With the Stars. He was terrible. Almost as bad as Charles Barkley playing golf.
Clyde is entertainment. Second best only to Bill Walton. Love them both. It would be epic to have the two call a game together.
One time, in May of 1996 at Putt Putt Golf, an employee interrupted a Clyde Drexler radio add and said, "We are going to lose." It was mildly funny, but we all knew it was true. We must have been down 3-0 to the Sonics at that point?
