The parts of Bush's policy which directly contrastsed to the work of CSK's have been pointed out directly above your other post claiming that it couldn't be done. now you come back and tell batman that he should expect to be called a terrorist sympathizer, and a Christian hater, but fail to give one piece of evidence in support. Way to support your fellow Americans. I see just how much or little you do to help unite the country.
Um, yeah, you are a total joke. What a load of garbage this is. So opposing Affirmative Action is racist. Niiiice. Totally false, but niiiiiice. Bush legislates 'like a racist' but you can't give any examples of this. Niiiiiiice. All racists are Republicans, according to you. Niiiiiiice. Ever heard of Robert Byrd, the former KU KLUX KLAN member? You are a total joke Batman. A total joke.
Hi Jorge. Byrd was a racist. That's a confirmed fact. What's your point? Back then most racists were Democrats. They changed parties around the Civil Rights era coincidentally enough, when the Democrats started fighting for equal rights and the Republicans started fighting against them. Back then, many Democrats (including a lot of famous ones) changed parties for this very reason. Read a book. As for the other stuff, you accused me of calling Bush racist. I hadn't. When pressed to prove he was racist (a thing I'd never said) I said it couldn't be proved but that if I were to guess I'd say yeah, he probably is one. Just a guess. No, opposing AA is not inherently racist but I'm fairly sure it's in contradiction to what CSK stood for. And there can be no doubt that the fact of Bush planning an AA initiative or speech or whatever once after honoring King and appointed Pickering the other time after honoring him was intended to send a clear signal. But again, none of that has ANYTHING to do with any of this. You can't win a debate on the merits so you change the subject. Pretty much always. And you've done it here again. I said that Bush and Mrs. King were political opponents, that Bush opposed her major causes. thegary provided easy to read, concrete examples for you and you went poof, preferring instead to bait me into some charged thing over Bush being racist. CSK was a strong opponent of the Iraq war (and telephoned C. Sheehan during her Crawford protest to offer support). She opposed warrantless wiretaps as she had herself been a victim of them. She opposed legislation that rewards the rich while the poor go by the wayside (see Bush's latest budget as well as everything he's done in office before submitting that budget). Answer two things or shut the hell up: 1. thegary's post. You said Bush wasn't an opponent of CSK's causes and that saying so amounted to calling him a racist. thegary quickly and easily proved you wrong and you went poof. Redeem yourself if you can. (Here's a hint: you can't.) 2. Was Coretta Scott King a "libpig?" I dare you to answer this one. I also know you're too cowardly to do so. Thanks for playing Jorge.
Holy **** Batman just got PIZZZOWN3D!!! Batman, your use of hyperbole to describe Bush has really reached absurd proportions. I guess that's what reading Kos 5 hours a day will do to somebody's mind.
What the hell is a libpig? BJ, quit "assuming" that Bush is a racist. You basically come off as racist (ie. extremely predjudiced)with a comment like that.
Batman - I refuse to talk about somebody posthumously in a negative manner. I'll be the bigger man here and ignore your obvious attempt at baiting.
Awesome. You're too scared to answer too. You guys really are twins! I'll assume by your answer that if she were not dead you'd have no problem calling her a "libpig," since she fits all the criteria laid out by you and your brother.
Ask Jorge. He invented the term. Near as I can tell it means liberal. And since CSK was a proud liberal, I guess he figured her for a "libpig" too. First, that doesn't even make sense. Second, I believe, based on his priorities in office, that Bush does not care about black people. I think Kanye was right. More to the point, I think he doesn't care about poor people but a disproportionate number of blacks are poor, so... Anyway, it was just a guess. I'd be happy to be wrong. But that wouldn't do a thing to offset the problems Bush has caused for the poor in this country (blacks obviously included). His last budget alone was proof he cares more about buying rich folks another yacht than making sure hungry people eat a meal. Facts is facts, bro. If you find that impolite I can live with that.
I don't believe in Government handouts, either. Does that make me a racist? You're really stretching.
Fatty, I can understand if Jorge has you confused here. He decided to turn my assertion that Mrs. King and Bush were political opponents into me calling Bush racist. I didn't do that. And I contributed to the confusion by making the side point that I do think Bush probably is one. I should clarify that though. I don't think Bush hates poor people or black people -- I just think he doesn't care about them. You can absolutely be against "handouts," affirmative action, health care or even homeless shelters and not be racist. Of course. She can also be pro-death penalty, anti-gay rights and pro-Iraq war. But if you are, you cannot say you share common cause with a woman that was for those things. And pointing that fact out does not equal calling Bush (or you) a racist.
I shared a common cause with a lot of her issues, and disagreed with a lot, as well. But I can still respect what she and her husband did for this country, and I do. I certainly can call her a "great American", and not be lambasted for it, can't I?
Of course you can, Fatty. You're not the one that regularly refers to people that support every one of her issues "pigs" specifically for supporting those issues. Can you see how it might be hypocritical for someone that does do that to say he respects her?
Consider MLK's position on the Iraq war, in fact any war, known. More recently I have come to see the need for the method of nonviolence in international relations. Although I was not yet convinced of its efficacy in conflicts between nations, I felt that while war could never be a positive good, it could serve as a negative good by preventing the spread and growth of an evil force. War, horrible as it is, might be preferable to surrender to a totalitarian system. But now I believe that the potential destructiveness of modern weapons totally rules out the possibility of war ever again achieving a negative good. If we assume that mankind has a right to survive then we must find an alternative to war and destruction. "Don't ever let anyone pull you so low as to hate them. We must use the weapon of love. We must have the compassion and understanding for those who hate us. We must realize so many people are taught to hate us that they are not totally responsible for their hate. But we stand in life at midnight; we are always on the threshold of a new dawn." --Martin Luther King, Jr., "Pilgrimage to Nonviolence" in Strength to Love (1958)
You know, I think McDonald's Big N' Tasty is disgusting even though I have never tasted it - can I be a racist, too? The problem with this thread is that there are too many white people in it. White people = dumb.
This is exactly what happened at CSK's funeral. It's obvious not many of the critics watched any of the service because if they did, they would have seen every speaker talk about Coretta, her life, its meaning, her legacy. Maya Angelou was great. Carter talked about how important she was in helping him become President. Some gal from the Jewish League (I think) talked about how Coretta helped on many projects and assisted efforts to reach out to Jews in the Soviet Union. A South African (forgot her name) discussed how critical Coretta's support was to those who were trying to end Apartheid and how they were inspired by her. Clinton was great when he talked about her burden and her heroic journey to Memphis to lead a march just days after the assassination. But they weren't respectful... I mean jeez, what's with all this clapping and waving and shouting out and singing? Why can't those people be more like regular Protestants who know how to sit still and nod at the preacher until it's time to run home and turn on football? I think Clinton was providing commentary along with a joke when he referred to Bush 41 as one of the "frozen Chosen."
