That's all good, twhy, but you specifically made the choice to say that DeLay, Rove and Ailes had 'integrity.' I mean, you personally chose to ascribe that quality to them. What would possess you to say something that... pardon the expression, but... that dumb?

i wouldn't neccessarily call it dumb... throw the war out because there is a certain sect who see it as the right thing to do with no malice and then there is the other sect that doesn't...when it comes down to ideas, i think delay and crew try to stand for the ideals i'd like preserved...which is more than i can say about our good friend mr. clinton....

I think you might wanna break down and check that dictionary definition. Agreeing with your ideals and doing whatever's necessary to fight for them does not exactly correlate to integrity. I'd venture a guess most Republicans wouldn't even choose that particular word to describe the guys you used it on.

No big deal. I just find it funny, in the midst of the particular scandals of the past months, to defend your side's position with a word like integrity. DaDakota did it too, and it was equally hilarious.

in that case, there is no integrity in DC, and i for one don't want to believe that ignoble lie.

It just keeps getting better. Tom DeLay lacks integrity = there's no integrity in DC? Wowser.

I think there's integrity in DC. I think it's not in especially great supply, but it's there. I think McCain has it. I think Specter has it. I think Jeffords has it. I think Bob Dole had it. And I also think many Democrats have it. But DeLay, Rove, Ailes? Why not toss in Ollie North? He fits your definition of means-justifying-ends-as-long-as-you-agree-with-him kind of 'integrity.' As with so many other words before it, this word now means less than nothing. As much as Bush's White House's integrity comes into question, his supporters just yell the word louder. Effective, but very disappointing. Even more so when you suggest that your definition of the word is somehow holier than the one found in dictionaries (read: the right one).

Batman, a month ago, before i moved here, i probably would have agreed with you, on everything. this town is full of a bunch of people looking to push their agendas, scheeming, coniving, decietful, poopheads. if its taught me anything, i'd have to say to have your ideals strongly in check and hope someone is here to look out for them, because everybody in this town has an agenda. everybody.

EDIT: and when i said there's no integrity, i meant that the ideals in this town are what have to be held as integrity, not tom delay, but the ideas hes standing up for.... now it sounds like i did a role reversal on integrity, but at least i know what i mean even if i can't express it articulately...

I get it now, twhy. You didn't actually mean to say "at least they have integrity." You meant to say "at least they agree with me." Thanks for clearing it up.

basically. patronize me all you will, but that's the basics of it. when a scandal comes up when one of your boys doesn't cover his tracks, what will you be left to hold on to as integrity. oh, and that was the reason for the quasi sarcastic tongue guy when I said at least they have integrity.

Sorry for the patronizing tone, dude. Just can't abide someone assigning integrity to such well known con men and hypocrites. When one of 'my boys' does something hypocritical or shameful you can be sure I will call him on it. I will not defend it and I most certainly will not claim the offender has integrity. That word actually means something to me.

Thanks, mark. It's good to be back, though I was never really gone. When I'm travelling it's hard to post, but I still lurk when I can.

Actually the move hasn't even begun yet. I'll be travelling til the beginning of the year at least. Then I'll start looking for a place to settle down. Spent a week in Atlanta for meetings in advance of a show I'm directing there, then went to Chapel Hill for a week to hang out with a love interest (had a great time - sorry I wasn't in touch, giddyup - it was all about the girl), then to NYC for about a week to visit friends (got offered a gig there, but wasn't excited enough about the project to change my plans on the fly) and then down to Pittsburgh where I am now. Staying in the house of an ex-girlfriend while she tours the state with a very good dance theater piece. Just writing and working and relaxing some. Heading back to NYC toward the end of the month to direct a showcase for some friends, then to Atlanta to start rehearsals there. That show opens 1/9 and then I think I'll head west and see if there's anywhere I want to live or work out there. More than you wanted to know to be sure, but there it is.

Afraid we won't need any actors. Only three in the show (Paula Vogel's The Mineola Twins) and it's already cast. Melissa McNeeley, Amy Bruce and Jim Parsons -- all from Houston and Jim and Amy are from IBP. I think it's performing two nights only around 11/16 and 17. I'll be there around 10/23 though. Let me know if you wanna get a beer or join me and Jim to watch the Rockets/Spurs preseason game.

batman the thing is i've learned that very few politicians are people you would want to hang out with, men of integrity. i still respect the word, but i realize that their job puts them in a position where a lot of times they have to pick the lesser of two evils... soo maybe i was wrong in saying maybe they have integrity, but the fact of the matter was that i just meant it to mean, they have more integrity than clinton, which is debatable i realize, but what i believe...:)

I would also assert how much easier it is to have integrity when a horde of critics is not pulling apart and dissecting every single tough choice and/or decision you have to make... and squeezing it through a personal agenda before reporting it.

As you said, twhy77, politics is a land of compromise.

Clark Will Return Payments From Speeches

WASHINGTON - Democratic presidential candidate Wesley Clark's campaign says he will return payments for speeches he made since declaring his candidacy and will no longer speak for money.

Clark spokesman Mark Fabiani issued a statement late Wednesday saying Clark's advisers reviewed federal guidelines and determined that his paid speeches were appropriate.

"Nevertheless, to avoid any distraction from the real issues that matter to Americans, General Clark has decided to return the payments from these speeches," the statement said. It did not say how much money was involved.

This just smells fishy. What is Wesley Clark hiding from us? There is more to this story.
