everyone knows movies aren't real. but you're supposed to suspend disbelief for two hours so you can get wrapped up. I don't mind someone clapping if it's worth clapping for.
when the lights go dim, is that a time to clap??? i know a lot of ppl were waiting for Spiderman 3 for a long time...but cmon. Is clapping at the words "Spiderman 3" acceptable to you??? It's not only during scenes when this kind of stuff happens, but i'll say most of the time it is
I hate when people show up late and then expect you to move over so they can accomodate their fifteen friends at the end of the row.
Wow, I never knew people felt this strongly about such subjects... I don't really clap during movies.. I understand where they are coming from. But I don't understand why some people clap after the movie when the credits starts rolling. I love it when 2-3 people starts to clap when the movie is done hoping that people will roll with them, but no on joined so they just kinda died down. Hmm.. I must be a total buttocks-hole to be in the movies with. I almost always talk at the movies.. well I whisper but my friends don't seem to know how to. And people call and text me a lot when I'm in the movies for some reason. I reply back, but I cover my phone with my hat so the light won't escape my vicinity. The last time (and first) I ever clapped in a movie was when Kings of Comedy were on theaters... actually the whole crowd was rocking as if it the Rockets was up by 2 with 5 seconds left on game 7 of the NBA finals. One thing thought.. I hate it when the theater is half empty and I have my feet on a seat in front of me and some loser and his girlfriend decides to pick THAT spot to sit down. Sometimes he stops, looks at me with this (yeah get your feet off the chair, bizatch!) face and then sits down. Somamab*tch! That's ok, my talking usually pisses him off.
When you go to a thriller/horror and the 12 year old girls scream really loud at every scary part. Please STFU
I like clapping if it's appropriate. It's the communal experience that I enjoy most from a movie theater, otherwise you'd just watch it at home. And if you've just experience a moving scene or a wonderful movie, I enjoy the experience of clapping and expressing yourself. I couldn't disagree more with the original poster. Yoda's entrance during Episode II and the crowd reaction that accompanied it was one of my favorite experiences in a movie theater. Come on, that was just too cool. But I'll agree with his point on Spiderman 3. The movie just wasn't that good.
The best thing about this thread is how much AntiSonic apparently LOVES to clap at the theater. With the way he's defending the use of the clap at the theater, I can only imagine how often he breaks it out. Here's my piece of advice as far as avoding clapping at the theater: don't go see a movie on its first weekend/first night. You get all the fanboys that have been waiting for months and years to go see the damn movie. They're going to be a little bit excited. I'm probably a little bit weird when it comes to this, but I actually like a little bit of audience noise with the movie. I rarely go see dramas or serious movies at the theater. Mainly comedies and action flicks. One of my favorite experiences was going to see Snakes on a Plane in the theater. There was some idiot doucebag in the theater running around acting like everyone needed to be queit so he could appreciate the masterpiece. Well, everyone was yelling and screaming and reciting all the lines -- it was fantastic. I like it when people are into the movie and laughing along. I don't necessarily understand why someone would want to clap at a screen, but it doesn't really bother me.
You, uh, do realize you just picked on AntiSonic for his defense - and then went on to defend it, right?
We hear whispers and it's impossible to hide your phone light. If you can see it, someone else in the theater sees it. This is why I wait for DVD.
Did this happen at every theatre last night?? I was watchin it at the deerbrook amc and people were clappin over and over again.....It was kinda ok the first time but after a while it jus got ridiculous...
I actually haven't done it that often. Maybe two or three times. I just don't like to see people get bashed for silly reasons.
I don't mind the clap, but if it's ridiculous I like to shout out "NERDSSS!!!" On a scale of annoying movie goers, they're on the bottom of the list. Whisperers, self important phone users, and parents who bring their babies or clueless kids are much worse.
