Sneaky good move for Washington actually. With this move Corey Kispert is the only non-rookie contract player on their roster beyond 2026. They have Marcus Smart, CJ, and Khris Middleton as big expiring contacts this year. These are playable, "good-guy" vets to show the kids how it's done and provide functional spacing for Sarr and Bub to operate on offense. They will be terrible again this year, no doubt about it, but they finally have a chance to reset the culture with a completely clean slate. Depending on where things land they stand to have over $100M in cap space for the summer of 2026. While not a historical free agent destination, the DMV is a solid place to live / play and there are a lot of NBA guys with roots in the area. If they don't f*ck this up they could be in pretty good shape for 2027 and beyond.
