Oh man...I'm going to pass until I have a *huge* block of time that needs killing. Civ 4 was at least a month of lost productivity for me. Ditto for Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI. Those are about the only kinds of games I play any more and when I do, it's a trip into an autistic trance of dorkdom.
I saw CIV V for 39.99 at Fry's!!!! Going back to buy it over the weekend probably
Add me to the list of hopeless Civ addicts. Played the first one when I was a kid. Scary to think about how much of my life has been lost to it... months at least...
Though a lot of people think it's the worst, in some ways I love Civ 1 the most. I really miss the distinct nation specific music and the way they had different numbers of advisors behind the leader indcating their strength and how all of them would either start smiling if you did something they liked or all get really angry if you refused their demand or declared war. And who can forget railroads in the ocean??
GT240 vid cards have been showing up 35 bucks after rebate. Pretty good deal considering they can run directly on the slot without a power cord. There was a recent one a couple of days ago, but I haven't seen another.
I have not paid attention to new computers in ~5 years. Can someone tell me if this is capable of running civ 5 and if it's a good deal/brand? http://www.notebookreview.com/price/product.asp?pid=283519 Thanks.
Based on the min. graphics specs, you won't be able to run it in all of it's glory. Minimum Requirements Operating System: Windows® XP SP3/ Windows® Vista SP2/ Windows® 7 Processor: Dual Core CPU Memory: 2GB RAM Hard Disk Space: 8 GB Free DVD-ROM Drive: Required for disc-based installation Video: 256 MB ATI HD2600 XT or better, 256 MB nVidia 7900 GS or better, or Core i3 or better integrated graphics Sound: DirectX 9.0c-compatible sound card DirectX®: DirectX® version 9.0c Recommended Requirements Operating System: Windows® Vista SP2/ Windows® 7 Processor: 1.8 GHz Quad Core CPU Memory: 4 GB RAM Hard Disk Space: 8 GB Free DVD-ROM Drive: Required for disc-based installation Video: 512 MB ATI 4800 series or better, 512 MB nVidia 9800 series or better Sound: DirectX 9.0c-compatible sound card DirectX®: DirectX® version 11 That notebook's graphics card: http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Radeon-HD-4225.30647.0.html The 4225 is on the bottom "tier 3" in the list I'd try to hover around a tier 2 card. Kind of interesting the min spec allows a Core i3, meaning you can bypass all of this confusion and get either a Core i3 or Core i5 laptop for around 460-700 bucks. Since Intel's graphics chip is connected to the processor, it'll look better with a faster processor even if they are the same chip (but not that much).
Thanks IF. Gah. I used to enjoy this sort of thing - now I just don't give a flip. I just want a laptop to store a ton of photos and videos, play the occasional game of civ5, and not weigh a billion pounds at <$500. Anyone care to make a recommendation?
If you can wait till black Friday, I'd keep an eye for a Core i5 deal. Probably the best value you can get out of a new laptop. i3's aren't too shabby either. Demolishes AMD's best offerings and it's the economy model... They aren't hardcore gaming rigs, but with hdmi out, it makes a pretty nice HTPC and does everything else cooler and more efficient than the last gen model.
Thanks! We'll see about waiting. My current laptop is about as useful as a file cabinet and I am not the type to subject myself to massive crowds of assholes to save a few hundred bucks.
Best bang for your buck video card right now is the GTX 460 1GB. You can find them for around $150 and well worth the money once over. 2 of these in SLI will perform as well as a $500 GTX480. It also depends on what resolution you game at, but the 460 should last yall a good amount of time.
Try downloading it from here. Seems to work pretty good. Really fast download too. Are they ~$150 pretty regularly? Think I vaguely may have seen them for around that price at some point, though now when I look, seems to be around ~$220 or more (increased demand?). Maybe $190-$200 as a "special" price. Just wondering because I ended up ordering one for ~$175 recently. Actually overclocked a bit (plus has some modifications to run cooler and use less power), so I'm OK with that price as opposed to ~$150. My order ended up being backordered until October though, and the price is now at ~$260. Thinking Amazon might cancel it (or not honor it for like 6 months), which if they do, I might be interested in some of these ~$150 deals.
Reason #1918758 why I suck at these games : I'm still playing my first game. After over 500 turns, I just initiated my first attack of any kind. lol.
I looked at Wikipedia, Are the Mongolians not a faction anymore? I'm looking forward to this game, altough I little bit less now I know the Mongolians are not part of it anymore
