I reckon his films are closer to John Cassavetes than David Lynch but his cinematographer makes them as interesting visually as Lynch's.

If you can't get into a movie like Shadows which is probably the easiest Cassavetes' flicks to watch you probably won't like Wong Kar Wai's films.

I think it's sometime in mid July via The Weinstein Company.

I did not like this movie.

There was a couple of decent fight scenes after the one you see at the trailer bit the stories used to string together an artsy fartsy philosophy were left incomplete and jumbled. Sometimes characters come and go without any resolution or exposition.

For a movie riding on the back of ip man's legacy, there wasn't much literal completion or resolution. Billed as an action movie, it was more of a drama, yet without the guideposts of a well made traditional drama.

Maybe I was expecting too much action but I wasn't geared towards the genre bending kar Wong Kai intended. I liked 2046 and its prequels tho, but can't really hate a movie with 4 hot actresses sharing screen time.

Surprised this is playing at almost every theater in Houston, I'm not big on the kung fu stuff but this looks interesting and it also helps that it's directed by Wong Kar Wai. Will seek this out.

Was relieved to see that we have a fight on top of a moving train. Whew.

But, Hendrix adds, "[filmmakers have] always been blocked by the Lee family who ... carefully controls his image." (A recent exception is the 2010 biopic Bruce Lee, My Brother, which received the support of Lee's brother Robert.) Unable to make Bruce Lee movies, filmmakers turned to what Hendrix calls "the next best thing."

And I agree with you that the original Ip Man movie set the standard. While Tony Leung is a good actor, he's no Donnie Yen.
