To me, I think Paxton's character (CO from Kentucky) and the rest of the soldiers on that (base?), including J-Squad didn't have access to the media? So no televisions, etc? Idk, it was a pretty weak plot point.
I would have liked to see someone else in Cruise's role, but it was good. That said, I didn't like it more than X-Men DOFP. Emily Blunt is gorgeous and a very enjoyable actress by the way.
8/10 Wow I really enjoyed this flick. The two people I saw this with aren't frequent movie goers, and they liked it very much. A great mix of Groundhog Day, Oblivion, and shades of Aliens' Marines. The visual style, Cruise's character, his chemistry with my longtime crush, and the dark humour worked well together.
He was fantastic in Collateral. I liked Jack Reacher for the antihero quality. It's a shame that movie and Edge of Tomorrow are flops. You can't blame Hollywood for churning out crap like Ride Along and Neighbors when that's what people pay to see.
This was a fantastic movie. Cruise played a surprisingly good reluctant hero, and it had just the right amount of humor. Plus, dat Emily Blunt. This just may be one of my favorite movies of the year. Last year Oblivion was one of my favorites... and I don't even really like Tom Cruise.
Same here. Finally saw it yesterday as a "Father's Day" outing with the S.O. and my son in 3D. An excellent SF flick with an amazing amount of action (almost too much... can a movie have too much?), a lot of humor, which I didn't expect, and while convoluted, I liked the ending. If it isn't making the money people expected, I'm surprised. It should be a hit. Cruise can very definitely still carry an action flick, and Emily Blunt, even with armor on, is hot. If anyone is still on the fence about seeing this, hop off the fence and take the plunge. You won't regret it. -
It did receive strong word of mouth over the weekend to have a softer 2nd week fall than expected and it's doing well overseas. It's just a shame people were turned off by it in the first place.
It has made $240 million worldwide - it is doing just fine. Many Americans are turned off by Tom Cruise because of Scientology. I know I am, but I also know he makes good movies. Same goes for Oblivion last year, it made $286 million - mostly overseas.
Saw it. It was alright. The original was better. I did, however, think Bill Paxton did a knockout job.
The original "source" is a Japanese novel called "All_You_Need_is_Kill" that was made into a manga or graphics novel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_You_Need_is_Kill Manga Spoiler: below The anime "Rita" character is killed by the protagonist. see the wiki
I thought it had a really clever/ interesting plot -- then you add in the crazy fire fights... One of the best sci-fi movies i've seen in years.
Ending didn't make sense to me. How did killing the Omega in the present (or future) retroactively disable them in the past?
